Odd lifts. Awkward loads. No perfect setup just figuring it out. Farmboy strength. Not pretty. Not optimized. Just adaptable and hard to break. Variation isn't entertainment. It's exposure. If your squat's been stuck, maybe it's not effort.

If all you do is the same bar, same stance, same groove every week, you get good at that. And that's it. Change the bar. Change the demand. Change the position. You find out real quick what's actually strong. That's how oldtime strongmen trained.

After 20 years on the gym floor, you start to see what actually holds up - and what breaks people. Most of it's simpler than we make it. Field Notes is where I share what's working. Comment GO and I'll send you the first one.

@rangeofstrength Bad ass to see your posts popping up on here when I found you on IG forever ago. You inspired me to start working on spine flexion and everytime I do a back bend with my feet slightly elevated, you pop into my head!

What if instead of avoiding it, we searched for ways to develop it? Studying the training methods of throwers taught me that there is a lot we either do not understand or do not even try to understand when it comes to spine development.

@rangeofstrength Lucas, love it. One might begin preparing for this by lying prone on the floor, arms extended to a stick, then have a training partner lift it a few inches and build some range.

But that’s what shapes you as a coach. In our latest episode, “Horror Stories & Victories,” we talk about the side of coaching most people leave out. If you’re in it right now, you’ll get it. Listen now through the link below: open.spotify.com/episode/6udDe8…

No one really talks about this part of coaching. The part where a client quits, progress stalls, and you quietly question everything. Social media is all about PRs and transformations. It doesn’t show the doubt, the hard conversations, and the weeks that feel heavy.

Bench Supported T-Spine -Place the mid back against end of bench. -Lift the hips and reach overhead. -Drop the hips to stretch. -Repeat as needed.

Movements like "Drop Ins" are a great example of this. Taking the ability to bend statically, which is where most people stop, and progressing it explosively. Not just for athletes but for anyone who wants a level of preparedness like our viking ancestors 💀

Behind the head skull crushers are a great way to do this as they take the shoulders through more ROM while putting an even better stretch on the triceps.

Operation "Fat Triceps" has commenced on route to reclaiming my 315lbs bench. But this doesn't mean my mobility work goes out the window but rather it opens doors to experiment with pullover movements that will accentuate the triceps more.

Two focused lower body sessions per week. Hamstring flexibility you can actually keep. If you are ready to stop stretching in circles and start building flexibility that sticks, join us inside the ROS membership! rangeofstrength.ca/membership/

These strategies let you load the hamstrings at length, which is what actually drives the adaptation we're looking for. I teach these exact progressions on the training app through my Basics Programming.

The most common mistake I see for hamstring flexibility development is people using stretches that require prerequisites they don't even have yet. If you can't access the position properly, you can't load it properly. And if you can't load it, you won't create lasting change.
