The price of RAM is up like 2x in the last month I feel like I'm going crazy trying to buy parts for a pc For the same price as 256GB of ram for a PC, you can get a whole mac studio with an M3 Ultra chip, 2TB of SSD, that also has 256GB of ram (but it has a 3.5 month leadtime)

People who age happier and healthier tend to do 7 things: They don’t smoke, exercise regularly (but not excessively), maintain a healthy weight, and are mindful with alcohol or other substances. But one of the most interesting ideas that @arthurbrooks underscores is that the "happy-well" also have 3 less obvious traits. They keep learning, they develop real skill in dealing with life’s problems, and they prioritize love—through a strong marriage, close friendships, or both.

Software horror: litellm PyPI supply chain attack. Simple `pip install litellm` was enough to exfiltrate SSH keys, AWS/GCP/Azure creds, Kubernetes configs, git credentials, env vars (all your API keys), shell history, crypto wallets, SSL private keys, CI/CD secrets, database passwords. LiteLLM itself has 97 million downloads per month which is already terrible, but much worse, the contagion spreads to any project that depends on litellm. For example, if you did `pip install dspy` (which depended on litellm>=1.64.0), you'd also be pwnd. Same for any other large project that depended on litellm. Afaict the poisoned version was up for only less than ~1 hour. The attack had a bug which led to its discovery - Callum McMahon was using an MCP plugin inside Cursor that pulled in litellm as a transitive dependency. When litellm 1.82.8 installed, their machine ran out of RAM and crashed. So if the attacker didn't vibe code this attack it could have been undetected for many days or weeks. Supply chain attacks like this are basically the scariest thing imaginable in modern software. Every time you install any depedency you could be pulling in a poisoned package anywhere deep inside its entire depedency tree. This is especially risky with large projects that might have lots and lots of dependencies. The credentials that do get stolen in each attack can then be used to take over more accounts and compromise more packages. Classical software engineering would have you believe that dependencies are good (we're building pyramids from bricks), but imo this has to be re-evaluated, and it's why I've been so growingly averse to them, preferring to use LLMs to "yoink" functionality when it's simple enough and possible.
Daniel Hnyk@hnykda

LiteLLM HAS BEEN COMPROMISED, DO NOT UPDATE. We just discovered that LiteLLM pypi release 1.82.8. It has been compromised, it contains litellm_init.pth with base64 encoded instructions to send all the credentials it can find to remote server + self-replicate. link below

I tested every major Canadian city's 311 API to see if any let you submit a civic report programmatically. The result: none. Toronto- retired 2021 Ottawa- server deleted Quebec City- SSL expired Surrey- returns 400 Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Winnipeg, Halifax- read-only data or nothing Globally? San Francisco had the only working Open311 submit API. The city is shutting it down in July. The world's civic reporting infrastructure runs on email. Canadian cities: the data exists in your systems. Open a POST endpoint. Let civic tech builders connect. Your residents will thank you. solveto.ca

A physicist, engineer and a statistician are out hunting. Suddenly, a deer appears 50 yards away. The physicist does some basic ballistic calculations, assuming a vacuum, lifts his rifle to a specific angle, and shoots. The bullet lands 5 yards short. The engineer adds a fudge factor for air resistance, lifts his rifle slightly higher, and shoots. The bullet lands 5 yards long. The statistician yells "We got him!"

If you're on a statin, you should be supplementing with CoQ10 Statins block cholesterol synthesis via the HMG-CoA pathway, but that same pathway also produces CoQ10, which is essential for mitochondrial energy production When CoQ10 levels fall, mitochondrial function can suffer, with downstream effects on muscle health, brain health, and cardiovascular function Ubiquinol is generally preferred because it's the reduced, more bioavailable form, but ubiquinone has also shown benefits in studies and may still be effective at a high enough dose

I spent part of the day building an AI government relations agent with claude it scans various federal data sources: parliamentary calendars, committees, hansard, stats can, gov announcements, media and delivers a daily briefing filtered for what matters to Build Canada within a few minutes it had identified 4 committee witness opportunities, drafted a brief for me to submit to a parliamentary committee, and surfaced a story most Canadians are missing: > the Standing Committee on Science and Research is finalizing a report on whether EDI criteria should determine who gets $5B in federal research funding > 32 witnesses testified > scientists testified that grants were rejected not on research quality -- but on insufficient enthusiasm for EDI. Canada Research Chairs were restricted by identity. > granting councils couldn't show that the criteria produces better science > this is about to become a major national conversation. pay attention.. this is the kind of work that used to require a full-time GR team. now it can be done in sub-10 minutes using a GR agent. full analysis from claude, un-edited, shared below
