@mnkz001 Yes, it is the same 'ə' letter, and I think the pronunciation is also more or less the same. In 1926, a unified alphabet was also adopted for all Turkic peoples.

@xskvki Yes, however, in 1922, Farhad Aghazadeh's (one of the main alphabet revolutionaries) wish was that the Arabic script uses too many dots, and this is 'problematic' both in writing and technically. Overall, the best equivalent for the 'ə' sound in our language is 'ash'.

@ilyatopper Schwa is the name of this symbol in IPA, in the Azerbaijani language we do not use this term. I have written about why this symbol was chosen, about alphabet changes and about technical problems with historical documents in this book.

@rasulhasancom The letter is great, but calling it schwa can be a bit misleading, because 'schwa' is often used —and originally means, in fact— any vowel between consonants, or at the end of a word, which is not pronounced at all, or very faintly. Is there no native Azeri word for this letter?
