@DagnyTaggartUSA This is privileged rage bait. No family of 4 needs these items regardless of dietary restrictions. Kombucha, fancy snacks, dandelion greens(?!) and $7 radicchio from Whole Paycheck. Meanwhile the middle class gives up meat, name brand everything, and even SODA to make ends meet

One week of groceries for a family. Nothing extravagant. Just the bare bones in a blue state. I stay home. My husband only leaves the house to work. We have cancelled vacations. Taken our children out of extracurricular activities. Cancelled our gym membership’s. We do not go out to restaurants frequently. I’m wearing the same old clothes that I have for years and I need socks and underwear, but that will have to, I guess, never happen. @RFKJr_Official @POTUS @JDVance HELP!

@OrevaZSN I want all that AND don’t want to add to my ever-growing medical debt and paying for groceries via credit card. I want clean waterways that aren’t full of toxic corporate agricultural runoff. I want people to take care of each other again simply because we’re all human.

I don’t want a city on Mars. I don’t want AI in every app. I don’t want data centres in space. I don’t want humanoids or flying cars. I want clean water. I want a stable climate. I want bees to survive. And a habitable planet.

@TheBloggess Man, that sucks. I lost my baby last weekend way too soon and I’m still so sad. It helped so much to read about grief being love with nowhere to go.

@DoughnutsinNov @drterrysimpson As a fat person, I completed a half-iron man triathlon as a pescatarian who ate vegetables and fruit as most of my meals. I spent a minimum of 20 hours a week training and I rarely ate added sugars or junk food. Tell me why I was still FAT.

Ozempic does not “force” a caloric deficit like a cattle prod. It changes appetite signaling, satiety, gastric emptying, insulin secretion, glucagon, and in many patients improves glycemic control, fatty liver markers, and cardiometabolic risk. That is metabolism. The phrase “chemical crutch” is just moralizing in a lab coat. We do not call insulin a crutch, or antihypertensives a crutch, or glasses a crutch. We call them treatment. And this obsession with “root cause” is usually a racket. Obesity and metabolic disease are not one thing with one sacred origin story. They are genetics, appetite regulation, food environment, insulin resistance, sleep, medications, activity, and yes, inflammation. GLP-1 drugs act on several of those pathways at once. So no, this is not merely appetite suppression while the “real problem” hides in the basement. It is treatment of the very systems that are dysregulated. The scale is not the only outcome, but pretending improved blood sugar, less visceral fat, and better metabolic function do not count because a drug was involved is ideology, not medicine.
Diet & Nutrition@Diet0Nutrition

Ozempic isn’t fixing your metabolism, it’s suppressing your appetite while the root cause stays untouched. By mimicking hunger-regulating hormones, these injections induce significant appetite suppression and delayed gastric emptying, effectively forcing a caloric deficit. However, this exogenous intervention does little to resolve the underlying biochemical signaling issues or the cellular inflammation that drives weight gain in the first place. When the focus remains solely on the scale rather than restoring metabolic flexibility, the body remains dependent on a chemical crutch while the root cause often rooted in hyperinsulinemia and poor mitochondrial function continues to simmer beneath the surface.

@DoughnutsinNov @drterrysimpson I’m so sick of seeing people suggesting that those who need a GLP are “not making lifestyle changes.” A LOT (maybe at least half) of people have done all that for YEARS and yet they’re still fat. Stop assuming fat people don’t workout or eat properly!

My question is what happens when someone stops taking the drug? If they haven't made any lifestyle changes will they end up back where they started? This is the concern (along with potential long term side effects). If someone needs to take a drug for the rest of their life, when there is a non-medicated option, doctors pushing the drug comes off like just another big pharma money making scheme. I think there is a place for GLP-1 drugs for those that are morbidly obese but it should be used in a limited capacity along with lifestyle changes with the ultimate goal of not needing the medication.

@physicsgeek It was also a big deal bc she was a woman. Not only did they pick a teacher, but a female teacher! She was the third or fourth American woman to go. The ‘80s were a big time for feminism and she became iconic

I know it's been 40 years and some of you were still sperm in your father, but all y'all screeching NO KIDS WATCHED THE CHALLENGER EXPLOSION are not only stupid, you're pig ignorant. 1) A teacher was on board as an astronaut 2) Lot of teachers wheeled TVs into their classrooms so that kids could watch a teacher fly into space. 3) Those kids saw the Challenger explode One of the worst videos I saw was of Christa McAuliffe's (the teacher in question) classroom -with a sub teacher- watching the video as the Challenger exploded.

@rorynotsorry There’s a point at which you HAVE to be watching your nutrients and moving more for GLPs to work. They ARE putting in work. I know someone on Wegovy for an off label need and they haven’t lost a single lb.

Just one more comment on the GLP1 crowd. My mother is severely obese. She is 76 years old. A few months ago she went on GLP1s and has lost 40lbs. She is more active now. Her blood work has improved. Is their argument that I should be calling up my mom and calling her lazy and a cheater?

I just want people who are smart to stop saying “my wife and I” or “my husband and I” when it’s supposed to be me. This one is so very easy to fix. If you would say me you say my wife and me. —She and I went to work. He told my wife and me. I went to work. He told me. Let me help

@Kevinofthelion @ArrozYUnGandul I ate properly and completed a half iron man while fat and did not lose any weight. It’s not just about diet and exercise. As I got older and my hormones changed, I’ve had to basically starve to lose lbs. I did this for 8-10 months and only dropped 8 lbs. Stop judging ppl.

@ArrozYUnGandul The issue is how quickly and aggressively companies are pushing them as an alternative to diet and exercise If you want to try them or need them more power to you, but mass medicalization for those who don't need them will have long-term negative consequences

@mrmikeMTL I’m not seeing this in the replies so I’ll ruin spaghetti for you. My mom made us “spaghetti surprise” a couple times. IIRC she added a bag of frozen pea/carrot/corn mix to the sauce. I think it was the only thing I absolutely refused to eat as a child.

In the sauce you should have onion and carrots, the tomato is technically fruit but I think to the heart of the question, I think you are looking for not carb/meat. You can also have peppers and green spices, basil etc. FYI, carrots can be reduced down and caramelized to add sweetness. So you do not have to add refined sugar.

@OneEyedAlpaca @allie__voss No amount of effort will help the discrepancy of my boob size from pregnancy -> breastfeeding->not breastfeeding ->pregnancy again. No one’s wallet can support that. My boobs change hourly during breastfeeding.

@_nictorious It’s because many people who stop taking GLP-1 gain majority of the weight back. The studies show this. Metabolism is slower and hunger hormones reset to normal True weight loss requires changing your diet + lifestyle and sticking to it long-term. It’s not a short-term fix

The way some of y’all talk negatively about people who are losing weight via GLP-1’s shows me that it was never about people actually being “skinny”/healthy but about people wanting to feel superior to others. Y’all move the goalpost constantly
