In 1618, Johannes Kepler discovered that the square of a planet's orbital period is proportional to the cube of the semi major axis of its orbit. T² ∝ a³ Isaac Newton later showed why it works through gravity: T² = 4π²a³ / GM This single relationship explains why distant planets take much longer to orbit the Sun and became one of the foundations of modern celestial mechanics.

Calculus originated from the independent work of Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz in the late 1600s. Key figures in its evolution include Guillaume de l'Hôpital and Leonhard Euler in the 1700s, Joseph-Louis Lagrange, Pierre-Simon Laplace and Joseph Fourier around 1800, Niels Abel, Bernhard Riemann, Anton Grünwald, Aleksey Letnikov, Magnus Mittag-Leffler, Joseph Liouville, Karl Weierstrass and Pavel Nekrasov in the 1800s, culminating with Paul Lévy near 1900.

These symbols form the core vocabulary of logic and set theory in discrete math. ∀ stands for for all, ∃ for there exists, and ∃! for there exists a unique. The vertical bar | means such that, ∈ indicates an element is in a set, ∧ joins conditions with and, and ∨ with or. ⊆ denotes subset of while ∪ means set union. It is used to formalize conditions when writing queries in SQL databases and verifying software correctness.

Core calculus results connect differentiation and integration directly. The definite integral ∫_a^b f'(x) dx equals f(b) − f(a), while d/dx ∫_a^x f(t) dt equals f(x). Integration by parts applied to ∫ x e^{2x} dx produces the antiderivative (1/2)x e^{2x} − (1/4)e^{2x} + C, equivalently (1/2)e^{2x}(x − 1/2) + C. A surface plot shows a sample function in three dimensions. Engineers use these techniques to determine the total displacement of a particle moving under variable acceleration.

These three theorems form the basis for converting volume integrals of divergence, curl, and gradient into equivalent surface integrals. The top one is the divergence theorem for vector field F. The middle relates the curl integral to a surface term with the unit normal crossed by F. The bottom applies the same principle to the gradient of scalar f. They are used to analyze net outflow in fluid systems and electromagnetic flux through surfaces in device design.

Nested radicals have these closed-form values. (i) √(P + √(P + √(P + ⋯))) = [√(4P + 1) + 1]/2 (ii) √(P − √(P − √(P − ⋯))) = [√(4P + 1) − 1]/2 (iii) √(P ⋅ √(P ⋅ √(P ⋅ ⋯))) = P (iv) Finite n times: √(P √(P √(P ⋯ √P))) = P^((2^n − 1)/2^n) Obtained via quadratic equations or inductive exponent addition. It is used to simplify recursive calculations in algebra, physics simulations, and algorithm analysis.

The Golden Triangle is an isosceles triangle with angles of 36°, 72°, and 72°. Its equal sides are in the golden ratio, making it one of the most elegant shapes in geometry. Golden ratio: φ = (1 + √5) / 2 ≈ 1.618 It is closely connected to the Fibonacci sequence because the ratio of consecutive Fibonacci numbers approaches φ as the numbers grow larger.

Faraday's Law states that a changing magnetic field creates an electric field. In other words, electricity can be produced whenever the magnetic field through a loop changes over time. The image breaks the equation into its individual parts. On the left, it shows the electric field being summed around a closed path. On the right, it shows the changing magnetic field passing through the surface enclosed by that path. The arrows explain what each symbol represents, including the electric field, the small path and area elements, the surface normal, and the rate at which the magnetic field changes. The key idea is simple: no changing magnetic field means no induced electric field. The greater the rate of change of the magnetic field, the stronger the induced electric field. This principle is the foundation of electric generators, transformers, induction cooktops, and wireless charging.

The Lambda Tetractys shows how powers of 2 and 3 generate musical intervals from a starting tone of 1. The left side multiplies by 2 repeatedly to form the octave series 1, 2, 4, 8. The right side multiplies by 3 to form the perfect fifth series 1, 3, 9, 27. Numbers such as 6, 12 and 18, shown in red, fill the interior and complete the triangle. These positions create perfect fourth ratios of 4:3 along other connections. The diagram labels paths for the tonic, octave, perfect fourth and perfect fifth. It is used to generate the tone ratios of the Pythagorean musical scale.
