Stop the Cap!

Wall Street firm Morgan Stanley expects once Frontier-Verizon merger is complete, FiOS fiber to the home will reach upwards of 40 million Frontier customers, beyond what Frontier could show as profitable. Should help many rural and red-lined urban areas finally see fiber access.

With Cox set to adopt Spectrum's unlimited data plans post-merger, most of cable broadband is now cap-free. Since starting our fight against data caps in 2008, there has never been a time when those caps were justified. Let us hope they are now resigned to history.

After a decade of data caps, Comcast has finally listened to its customers and is ending its arbitrary limits and overcharging for "too much usage." The fact is, new unlimited competitors made data caps untenable as customers took their business elsewhere. (1 of 2)

Cox customers will appreciate the fact that after Spectrum rolls out its service plans post-merger (pending approval), DATA CAPS WILL BE GONE. Data caps are as relevant today as buggy whips. They exist only to greedily charge customers more money and are unnecessary.

Regulatory review required. Trump Admin and FCC is a real wild card. Who knows. State regulators except in NY and CA will rubber stamp this. NY gets an opportunity to demand more low price internet and rural internet expansion from Spectrum, plus protecting NY jobs.

Cox customers will not see a high-split upgrade so they will need to wait until DOCSIS 4 for upload speed upgrades on the HFC network.

Listening to the press conference suggests Spectrum’s existing packages and pricing will be retained and will be introduced to Cox customers. I’m waiting to hear a direct statement that there are no data caps.

The new company will be called Cox. Cox loves data caps and it isn't known if those caps will now be slapped on Spectrum customers.

I am concerned by Verizon’s continued focus on promoting DEI. I expect all regulated businesses to end invidious forms of discrimination.
