Political views, food preferences, bad jokes, opinions on books and TV, boasts about baking are all MINE and nothing to do with my employer. I tweet, as should be obvious, as an individual.

@EastMidRailway Seems to me that the crew are underreporting issues so the stats don't look so bad.

@EastMidRailway Like I said, third time in a month this route hasn't had reservations visible. And only two carriages have working toilets.

@EastMidRailway third time in a month I've traveled down to LSP from Derby and the seat reservations are never working. Today half the toilets aren't working either and no hot breakfasts in First Class. Not exactly the customer service you're aiming for.

@EastMidRailway Today, 0909. Why are the reservations never in place?

I'm generally avoiding X/Twitter, but I'm case this gets through all the noise: I'm at #ASEConf2025 today and it would be great to catch up with anyone I know, IRL or virtually. Find me in the physics foyer from 0930 to 1100 ish.

@ImtaBrendan If you accept American/British overlaps, the verb "to table" can be to open a topic for discussion, or to end the conversation.

Contronyms are always the most interesting of words. Can you add any more to the list below? Dust the table vs dust the strawberries...

@Maccanorton @MBDscience Looks like the end of KS3 exams we used to use based on the old SATs.

According to the mark scheme, the correct response is: coal -- fireplace (even though that's been illegal for over a year) oil -- central heating (even though natural gas is the most common heating fuel in the UK) gas -- cooker (even though just 30% of households have gas ovens)

@teachingofsci @edmunds_dr I am happy to help with 23 years of Physics teaching experience. I don't need any fancy titles or pay, just ask me a few questions. Starting with kicking AQA to produce better A level papers. In fact just have one exam board to start with and one level!!

@AvantiWestCoast Hi, I've had the email about my DelayRepay claim, but the info online doesn't match and I can't update. Can you provide a contact email address please?

@teachingofsci 2/2 This has been caused by a the train experiencing a delay because of a power cut at Wolverhampton, on the previous delay. Once you arrive into your destination you can claim for delay repay here avantiwestcoast.co.uk/help-and-suppo… Once again, I'm sorry for the confusion caused. - Lucy

@PhysicsNews This say the same sort of things as always - energy, particles & atoms, forces & motion, and space Notably no electricity or magnetism, despite relevance to the modern world I’d be much more interest in how this list was reached and the rationale, than the list itself.

From “why we need renewable energy” to “what makes atoms tick", core ideas in physics help young people see the world differently and think critically. That's why we’ve released the big physics ideas ahead of the government’s review of secondary school curriculums in the UK to highlight the importance of these concepts in schools, not just for future scientists but for everyone navigating a complex, tech-driven world. 🌐 Let’s equip the next generation to challenge misinformation, understand our universe, and imagine a better future. 🌠  Find out more here: iop.org/about/news/big…

I think assisted dying is incredibly important - and that's why getting it right matters. For contrast, the referendum bill and phrasing was rushed and look how that turned out.

@staffdb66 @CforWomenUK @laura_woodsy @Baronessjenkin We know that in the states, for example, people have claimed a trans competitor is 'cheating' when it's simply a girl who aggrieved parents *think* is trans. The usual confounding factors in people's assumptions.

@CforWomenUK @teachingofsci @laura_woodsy @Baronessjenkin not really - awful lot of events and data on there without naming the winner or having links. Many small local events More than 200 Disc Golf entries(!) Not verified as a male/trans competitor. People quoting this as fact when there is no information on who runs the site etc

Crazy discussion in the House of Lords around women’s sport. @Baronessjenkin highlighted a UN study published in August calculated: "By March this year over 600 female athletes in more than 400 events were defeated by trans-identifying males who took a total of 890 medals."

@CforWomenUK @staffdb66 @laura_woodsy @Baronessjenkin Easy to spoof, like all crowdsourced data. My biggest issue with most data is that without a useful context an absolute number means very little - 600 claimed issues out of how many million possible ones?

@staffdb66 @laura_woodsy @Baronessjenkin I mean, I'm not looking down on disc golf - I used to play ultimate frisbee myself, which as it happens was usually played mixed - but not sure how helpful/representative it is across the sporting landscape. A percentage is now useful than a number after all!
