Across the staggering range of different philosophies and approaches to pedagogy across decades of educational theory and discourse, I'd be genuinely amazed if you found anybody at all who said
"We should not adapt our teaching to the students in front of us"
Can't put it more clearly than that. The term means anything you want it to.

In January 2019, Ofsted released the research underpinning the (now defunct) Education Inspection Framework. In it, they slammed "differentiation" and promoted "adaptive teaching." They cited research, which is great, and in broad thrust, I don't think what they said is wrong. BUT They did not really fully define either term. They did not provide much by way of exemplification. The example they used for "adaptive teaching" was "by providing focused support to pupils who are not making progress, is likely to improve outcomes" Ok, what does that mean? In class? Out of class? Booster or intervention sessions? LSAs? Who knows! That report was a summary, so as far as it goes that was all fine. But now we have a situation where off the back of it we have moved wholesale as an industry from a set of practices that sucked, to...what? There's a video doing the rounds of a student heckling a picketing teacher and from it I cannot work out why they're striking. There's a keffiyeh and a Palestine flag, there's a Stand Up To Racism banner, there's the local NEU branch banner, but what's the actual grievance?

The other day I saw a packet of jellybeans with a sticker saying "Now Gluten Free!"
The jellybeans, they've always been gluten free, but slapping a sticker on them makes it seem new and special. This is what "adaptive teaching" feels like to "differentiation".

Supermarket self-checkouts don't rile me.
But why do people scan the items from the basket & then put them in the bagging area and once finished put the items from the bagging area into a bag?!?!?
Open you bags. Place in the bagging area. After scanning put straight into bag.

Today, it was suggested that, to improve KS5 literacy, we recommend "relevant blogs and articles" because "books can be off-putting", and whilst I have no issues with blogs or articles, I do think A-levels should be sufficiently rigorous such that a book is not "off-putting".
