Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit the new Culinary Connections kitchen at Easterseals to meet the dedicated staff who are helping participants of all ages and abilities master life skills through culinary classes and culinary therapy. It was amazing to see their accessible tools and adaptive practices in action, which ensure everyone can participate regardless of ability! Thank you to @EastersealsPORT for all you do to support and empower our community here in Hampton Roads…!

Friends, I wanted to share a moment with you that took my breath away today. I’m going to be really honest with you all, I have been struggling with my faith since the loss of my grandmother Miriam. As I was driving away from the hospital after saying goodbye to her, I asked her to send me a sign. A sign that there is something on the other side, that she is there, that she is okay, and that God still loves me. I kept the sign I asked for a secret. Being somewhat of a skeptical person and overly analytical at times, I asked for a sign I couldn’t dispute. I asked for a dragonfly in the middle of winter. After her passing, I could not feel her presence. I did not get a sign. I was recently telling loved ones, after weeks of silence, that I was beginning to lose my faith. In despair I shared that perhaps my grandmother disappeared into nothingness, that perhaps we all do. If anyone would make sure to send me a sign, it would be her. My sister and I gathered once more today to continue sorting through Miriam’s things. We found this note in her nightstand. A note, titled, “The Dragonfly.” The note was entirely about what comes after death, and that just because our loved ones can’t communicate with us, does not mean they aren’t there. I had to step out of her old bedroom because the tears were streaming down my face. Here it was, my dragonfly in the middle of the winter. My sign. I rushed through the bag of jewelry we were going to donate, and sure enough found a dragonfly brooch. So if you see me wearing it this year, please know that it is a reminder to myself, and everyone, that there is something on the other side. There is a higher power. And in our deepest moments of despair, there is a God that loves us. Just thought I would share.

Perhaps the board isn’t aware that the Kennedy Center is 𝗧𝗛𝗘 memorial to the president of the United States, John F. Kennedy. Would they rename the Lincoln memorial? The Jefferson? That would be an insult to great presidents. This too is an insult to a great president. Notwithstanding their short-sighted action, it is and will remain the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
