Day 26: Smart Contract Security Journey Today progress: ✅ Learned attacker mindset & exploit thinking ✅ Mapped fund flow before reading code ✅ Identified real-world attack surfaces ✅ Practiced filtering bugs by exploitability Understanding how they’re exploited.

@0xCharlesWang AI and better tooling will strengthen the baseline, but system complexity continues to expand the attack surface. Perhaps the objective is not complete elimination of risk, but sustained resilience. How should we define meaningful progress in that direction?

Solving the web3 security problem is the target. With the help of AI and proper usage of tools (what we have now + what else will come in the future), we will get 1 step closer to solving this big problem. However, I doubt that we will ever (at least in the next 10 years) be able to fully solve that problem.

Your protocol passed its audit with zero critical findings. Then a protocol you integrate with gets exploited, and your users lose everything. Composability is DeFi's greatest strength and its most underestimated risk. 🧵

@windhustler Thoughtful take, as AI increases build velocity, the ecosystem will expand rapidly. That growth brings greater responsibility around reliability and safeguards. Security will mature alongside innovation, strengthening the foundation for long term adoption.

How to thrive as a web3 security researcher in the age of AI - Tip 1 Mindset The world is full of pessimists. If you're fixated on the worst outcome, you're setting yourself up for failure. With every major technological shift, productivity goes up and new opportunities open. AI is no different. If you're wondering whether this is a good time to enter web3 security, there has never been a better time. What we're going to see in the coming years is a massive surge in projects building on the blockchain. Developer and product launch capabilities will at least double with AI, best case 10x. The crypto industry will likely 10x alongside it. That's 100x more apps being built. For every lending & borrowing market today, there will be 100 more. For every chain launching now, expect 100x more. Even if AI finds 95% of the bugs, you still need 100% bug-free project before launch. It will never be socially acceptable, let alone sufficient, to ship a project audited only by AI. That last 5% is where the exploits live. So prepare for abundance. Today is the best day to start your journey as a web3 security researcher.

Everyone framed @ethereum scaling as an L2 story. 2026 tells a different one. L1 execution targets are increasing. Gas limits rising. Blob throughput expanding. Ethereum is scaling on both layers. Over the next 3 years, what will matter more for Ethereum’s resilience: Higher L1 capacity or Stage 2 rollups at scale?

@triggerxnetwork Exactly. When you understand how components interact not just how they work individually you design for longevity, not just launch. Durability comes from system awareness.

Web3 Careers Beyond “Smart Contract Dev.” If you think Web3 only has one serious path... becoming a smart contract developer... you’re underestimating the ecosystem. Yes, Solidity engineers are critical. But Web3 isn’t just contracts. It’s layers. And most builders accidentally limit themselves to one narrow layer too early. Here’s the perspective I wish more builders had 👇 >> Web3 isn’t a role. It’s a stack. At the bottom: - consensus - execution - L2s - data availability - cryptography Above that: - smart contracts - account abstraction - protocol design Above that: - infra tooling - indexers - RPC layers - simulation engines Above that: - applications - governance systems - token economics - coordination models And around all of it: - security - research - DevRel - ecosystem design When you say “I want a Web3 career”, what you’re really choosing is which layer of this stack you want to live in. Most people never think about that explicitly. >> The mistake builders make early They assume: “If I’m not writing smart contracts every day, I’m falling behind.” But the best builders I’ve seen don’t optimize for syntax. They optimize for: ~ understanding systems ~ recognizing trade-offs ~ knowing where risk hides ~ designing for failure ~ improving feedback loops That skill applies across layers. >> There are different kinds of leverage in Web3 Some builders create leverage by: - Writing primitives that thousands of apps depend on - Designing governance systems that coordinate millions - Building infra that makes development 10× easier - Finding vulnerabilities before attackers do - Clarifying complex systems so others can build faster All of these are “Web3 careers.” Only one of them is pure smart contract development. >> The real question isn’t “Which language should I learn?” It’s: - Do I enjoy thinking about economic incentives? - Do I like debugging distributed systems? - Do I prefer building tools or shipping products? - Do I enjoy breaking systems more than building them? - Do I like explaining complexity more than implementing it? Your honest answers matter more than the hype cycle. >> Web3 rewards depth not titles You can be: - a protocol engineer - a security researcher - an infra builder - a governance designer - a data analyst - a DevRel engineer - a tooling maintainer - a researcher And still be a high-signal Web3 builder. The ecosystem is wide. The surface area is massive. And most builders only see one door. >> If you’re early Don’t rush to define yourself as: “Just a smart contract dev.” Explore the stack. Understand how layers interact. See where your curiosity sticks. Because long-term careers in Web3 aren’t built on trend alignment. They’re built on: - systems thinking - trade-off awareness - clarity under uncertainty - patience Web3 isn’t a job title. It’s an ecosystem of problems waiting to be solved at different layers. The earlier you realize that... the more freedom you have to design your path intentionally. Save this if you’re figuring out where you fit.

The conversation around L2s is becoming more precise. Scaling alone may not be a sufficient differentiator. Clear execution profiles and defined use cases matter. As the stack matures, reliability and coordination across environments become increasingly important.

@windhustler Strong point, an audit is not just a technical checklist, it is also a trust layer. Especially in automated systems, stakeholders need confidence not only in the code, but in how it behaves under execution pressure.

A smart contract audit has 3 purposes: - Find the bugs, get the code ready for production. - Give the project team peace of mind. - Give the project stakeholders (users, investors) a perception of security. Solo audits or weak brand firms can only satisfy the 1st purpose. No matter how good their audit was, it's going to be hard to convince the external stakeholders to put their money. So when someone says "smart contract audits are expensive," what's really at play: i) They have no idea how to find good solo auditors or smaller firms. They might be new to crypto or haven't had any exposure to security companies. ii) They want all 3 things from above without paying for them.

@SecretNetwork Both matter, but for different reasons. Private AI protects intelligence, private DeFi protects execution. As automation grows onchain, privacy at both the decision and transaction layer becomes critical.

@EliBenSasson The real unlock may not be AI writing code faster, but AI making contracts act smarter. Monitoring conditions, triggering actions, coordinating flows automatically. That’s what drives adoption.
