⚠️ A fungus nearly wiped out entire wheat harvests. Stem rust Ug99 can destroy 70% to 100% of a crop, putting farmers’ incomes and national food security at risk. Science responded. Nicolas Lapalu et al. developed a new method to improve the prediction of eukaryotic genes and demonstrate its utility using the genome of the fungal wheat pathogen #Zymoseptoria tritici.
