@wholemars Simplest solution - remove any possibility of the idiot influencing the vehicle in any way, shape, or form

@wholemars Yeah this lady in the media would have been safer in a vehicle with no steering wheel or pedals.

@wholemars Yeah exactly. Safe is the baseline, but it really needs to be idiot-proof too. Roads are full of people pulling the dumbest moves every day and FSD has to just shrug it off. That's the real bar.

@wholemars No such thing. It only needs to be better than the average idiot.

Agreed. Though I can tell there was a significant update pushed in the last update I received to make it more idiot proof, and that's annoying for people like myself who can easily monitor what it's doing without locking your eyes straight ahead at all times no matter the circumstances. My car yelled at me and started the deactivation of FSD process as I was sitting at a red light last night not moving because I didnt nudge the steering wheel fast enough lmao that's just straight retarded. I will unsubscribe from FSD until unsupervised is here in late 2026/early 2027. The attention monitoring needs work, Tesla bros.

@wholemars Ok. How about a solution because the depth and breadth of idiocy is much greater than our engineers intelligence right now.

@wholemars Idiot proof is a fantasy. Nothing is idiot proof. We will only ever make it safer than humans by a lot.

@wholemars So a disengagement should not be absolute but only enough that you can not crash?

@wholemars Good point, the nag needs to be at max as soon as FSD is turned off, if at high speed and nag fails, vehicle immediately slows down @aelluswamy @Tesla_AI

@wholemars I don't believe idiot proof is possible because the universe keeps producing bigger idiots (and puts them in positions of power).

@wholemars Idiot proof is impossible. Idiots are ingenious in their way of discovering new ways to fuck up.

In the war of Public Relationa, Self-Driving suffers the disadvantage of being a single identity to an audience ignorant of statistical weighting. The emotional impact of absolute values aren’t corrected for miles driven. “Steve crashed four times” and “FSD crashed four times” carries the same impact to most people. Embarrassingly few people internalize the math “4 times out of 10,000,000 miles driven” vs “4 times in the last 20,000 miles.” They just feel Steve and FSD are equivalently bad drivers. Every mishap is multiplied by however million drivers FSD is competing against, rather than compared against the average, weighted for miles driven. It’s an uphill battle… but my money is on Tesla.
