@kicknyrgios By 8U, the SS is the best IF, OF and usually pitcher… That he stuck at SS until draft isn’t surprising given his talents. Their system failed to see he couldn’t be a MLB caliber SS at 21-22 and didn’t develop him into an outfielder at that point is the issue at hand.

a very useful way to understand baseball, in my opinion, is that basically by 8u baseball, you know who is good at catching balls in the air and who is good at catching balls on the ground. anyway the pirates tried to turn a lifelong shortstop into a centerfielder at age 25.
