Authorities identified the former deputy as Amarachukwu W. Igwe, who joined the agency in July 2025. According to officials, Igwe was taken into custody on April 4 before any drugs reached inmates. The sheriff’s office says its Internal Investigations Unit uncovered the alleged scheme early, preventing the drugs from entering the facility’s general population. Following the arrest, Sheriff Sean Casey confirmed Igwe was immediately terminated.
