March 31, 1993, a Boeing 747 engine fell off shortly after taking off from Anchorage, caused by turbulence & an undetected crack in the pylon connecting engine to wing. Engine & other debris hit Anchorage near Northern Lights/Boniface. No one was injured, in air or on ground.
