The big gap between diesel and kerosene prices has raised fears of fuel adulteration in Kenya. Oil marketers say the Sh44 per litre difference may encourage dealers to mix kerosene into diesel for profit.

ODM Linda Ground is now asking ODM Linda Mwananchi to come back and form one strong ODM that can have better negotiation power with UDA. Speaking at an event, Ruth Odinga called for unity and urged that the ODM Linda Mwananchi team should be welcomed back to strengthen the party. In another event, Junet Mohamed said he is no longer TUTAM or Wantam, explaining that there is no formal agreement with UDA. At the same time, UDA has been holding rallies in South Nyanza without ODM support, showing clear signs of internal disagreements. There are also claims from some quarters that William Ruto is trying to reach the Linda Mwananchi team to form a new arrangement, with promises that Edwin Sifuna could be offered the Deputy President position.

A new report reveals that substandard fuel meant to be returned was instead pumped into Kenya’s main pipeline and sold to dealers. The 60,000-tonne consignment had sulphur levels four times above permitted limits.

IN THE NEWSPAPERS... THE STANDARD (Double-speak master) President Ruto, who rose to power by condemning high fuel prices as mere “excuses,” now presides over the same crisis: pump prices past Sh200, global war pressures he once dismissed, and public anger circling back with irony and economic pain. DAILY NATION (Pumping up) President announces Sh6.5bn subsidy and VAT cut on fuel, but prices still jump Sh40 (diesel) and Sh28 (petrol). Manufacturers, matatus, freight, and food sectors warn of cascading hikes: fares up 25%, cargo 14%, and Unga 15%. Opposition threatens nationwide protests over alleged profiteering from government-to-government oil deals. PEOPLE DAILY (Inside the Judiciary crisis) Kenya’s judiciary is mired in turmoil: chronic case delays, missing court records, and a staggering Ksh6.3 billion in stalled projects, exposing a system struggling to deliver justice amid internal dysfunction and wasted public funds.

"Ruto should increase fuel prices until they reach even 500 shillings. Since we don't have cars, we'll just raise the fares. Squeeze those Kikuyu people hard—they've gotten too used to bad habits. Under Article 210(1) of the Constitution of Kenya, no tax may be imposed, waived, or varied except as provided by legislation. A presidential statement no matter how emphatic , does not have the force of law. The governing statute, the VAT Act, sets the standard rate at 16%. It delegates limited powers to the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury to make adjustments via Gazette Order. However, that delegated authority is constrained any variation cannot exceed 25% of the base rate. Do the math: 25% of 16% = 4 percentage points So the CS can only lawfully reduce VAT to about 12%, not 8%, through administrative action alone. A reduction from 16% to 8% is a 50% cut , well beyond the scope of delegated authority. That kind of change requires Parliamentary legislation, not an executive directive.

WHAT ICU NURSES KNOW ABOUT THE LAST HOURS OF LIFE THAT FAMILIES ARE NEVER PREPARED FOR: 1. Hearing is the last sense to go. Many patients can hear everything being said in the room long after they appear unconscious. Nurses know this. Most families do not act like it. 2. The body does not shut down all at once. It withdraws blood and oxygen from the extremities first, working inward toward the heart. The cold hands and feet you notice are the body making a final decision about what to protect. 3. A sudden, unexpected improvement in energy and alertness hours before death is not a good sign. Nurses recognize it immediately. Families almost always mistake it for recovery. 4. The sound called the death rattle is not pain. It is simply the throat relaxing and losing muscle control. But no amount of medical explanation prepares a family for hearing it for the first time. 5. Most people do not die during the night. The body has a biological rhythm and many deaths occur in the early hours of morning, between 3am and 5am, when the nervous system is at its lowest. 6. Patients often wait. Nurses have watched people hold on for days until a specific person arrives, or a specific word is spoken, or permission is quietly given to let go. It happens too consistently to be coincidence. 7. The words "we did everything we could" are sometimes true and sometimes the most painful half-truth a family will ever receive without knowing it. 8. Families who are not present at the moment of death carry guilt that no counselor fully resolves. Nurses see this guilt begin forming in real time and cannot always stop it. 9. The face relaxes completely at the moment of death in a way that is impossible to describe until you have seen it. Nurses say it looks like the person finally put something down they had been carrying for a very long time. 10. Many ICU nurses privately believe that the most painful deaths are not the ones with the most physical suffering. They are the ones where the patient dies surrounded by family members who are fighting with each other. 11. The thing families almost never say, but almost always should, is simply this: it is okay to go. Those four words, spoken out loud, do something that medicine cannot explain and nurses have witnessed more times than they can count. 12. Nurses grieve too. They learn the names, the histories, the family dynamics, and the small personal details of every patient. They cry in break rooms, in parking lots, and on drives home. Then they walk back in the next morning and do it all over again, because someone has to, and they chose to be that person.

THE TRUTH ABOUT FUEL....! Initially, the price of fuel (diesel) before William Ruto HIKED it yesterday was Kshs. 167. He hiked it by Kshs. 40, and the price became Kshs. 207. Then when the heat became too much, they played PR, and they reduced the price of fuel by Kshs. 11, and the new price is now Kshs. 196 bob! FACT: William Ruto hiked the price of fuel from Kshs. 167 to Kshs. 196! The price of diesel is still up by Kshs. 29 Bob, and then William Ruto and his affordable, gullible supporters want Kenyans to celebrate! We are too BRILLIANT to consume state-sponsored crap!

Hate him or love him, President William will never abandon Kenyans at a time when they need him most. His approach is simple: protect Kenyans first, absorb the shock, keep the country moving. By injecting KES 6.2 billions subsidy from petroleum development fund, the government reduced the portion of the price increase reflected at the pump Without that intervention, pump prices could have climbed toward KES 230 per litre. Fuel VAT is a major component of pump prices. By lowering it to 13% temporarily for three months offers immediate relief to motorists and businesses. While others talk, the government is spending, adjusting, and stabilizing to keep fuel flowing and the economy on track.
