Pro Ag’s Jeff Hoogendoorn was invited to sit on the beef panel at the Bloomberg Intelligence Farm, Food & Fuel Summit. We always appreciate opportunities like this to be part of the broader conversation and share perspective alongside others in the industry.

Pretty Ho-Hum WASDE today: USDA made no changes to U.S. balance sheets for #corn #soybeans #wheat ending stocks. World #corn stocks rose more than anticipated by 4 mmt. Slightly smaller arg soybean crop and unchanged on the large Brazil soybean crop.

Through 2/21 Argentina has shipped 11.1K MT of beef vs 5.0K MT last year. To put Argentina in perspective 80K MT is slightly under 5% of total US beef imports They're still not a top 5 supplier after this increase

The supreme court struck down trumps global tariffs on Friday. Trump now pivots to temporary global tariffs under section 122. This bumps global tariffs to 15% but is limited to 150 days starting at midnight tonight. After that congress will have to extend the tariffs. Other contingency plans include section 301 which allows tariffs on unfair trade practices targeting countries without existing trade deals. The market reaction has been bearish, however soybean prices are green today. Hard to believe this wont be choppy trade going forward. nbcnews.com/politics/white…

The beef industry is at a breaking point: both packers and feeders are facing record losses, and unless something changes, a major plant closure seems inevitable. Every part of the supply chain (and even the government) wants cattle prices lower, but this situation can’t last. Something's got to give. #cattle #beef #margins #cattlemargins #packers

Daily Market Commentary | February 12th, 2026 Lean hog futures declined, with the April contract settling at $93.85, while the negotiated national average for hogs rose to $88.17. Pork cutout values decreased and are nearing the bottom of the 30-day price range. Corn futures were mixed, with front month March closing slightly lower; ethanol production and exports set new records. Soybean futures were modestly higher, supported by statements about potential additional Chinese purchases, though Brazilian harvest prospects may limit further gains. Cattle futures were strong, but boxed beef prices fell and packer margins are approaching record losses, likely suppressing harvest levels. professionalagmarketing.com/blog/dmc-34

Beef: Beef demand lost momentum this week. Net sales for 2026 dropped to 15,700 MT, off 21% from last week and slightly under the recent average. South Korea remained the top buyer, though reductions were widespread across key Asian markets. Export shipments followed suit, sliding 10% week over week, with South Korea and Japan still anchoring demand. Pork: Pork saw similar pressure. Net sales fell to 28,600 MT, down sharply from both last week and the recent average. Mexico continued to lead purchases, while Japan and South Korea stayed active despite pullbacks. Exports were more resilient, dipping just 2% from last week, again paced by Mexico.

The current old crop vs. new crop soybean spread has increased significantly gaining nearly 40 cents last week. Indicating a lot of interest in old crop soybeans on the news.

Soybeans rallied yesterday after Trump said China may lift U.S. soybean purchases from 12mmt to 20mmt (roughly 441M bu to 735M bu). Big jump in potential demand, even as Brazil’s record crop keeps cheaper supplies available. Headlines added fuel to the move.

@Matthew1530896 We base our numbers on comparing samples to prior years. We also travel through the highest production counties in Illinois, the majority of them coming in the central and north.

@AgProfessional If you haven’t toured south of I70 in Illinois, how can you even remotely get close to a guesstimate for a state average?
