I can tell you from experience, it’s easier to quit illegal narcotics than it is to quit sugar. I just learned today, at 50 years old, that the Atwater Calorie Index we have used for 130 years (the late 1800s) does not take SUGAR into account when calculating calories from food consumed. I truly believe one of the greatest health epidemics to humans has been, and continues to be, sugar. It’s almost impossible to avoid, as it’s in so much of our diet, yet our bodies cannot break in down in the amounts we take in. Especially, sugar in liquid form (sodas, etc). And I’m definitely guilty of sugar consumption. Not throwing stones here. But, I actively monitor and limit sugar in my diet. That’s my personal choice from my perspective on sugar. I’m hopeful for modern food scientists to come up with something besides a 19th century index that was developed before our lives were consumed with sugar and other processed foods.
