Firstly, the kirpan is not a weapon. It is a religious artefact and as such wearers have a defence in law. Once it is unsheathed and wielded in anger it legally becomes a weapon, just as a chair leg or a pair of nail scissors would be. Secondly, Digwa didn't even use a kirpan to kill poor Henry. He used a much larger 'traditional' knife that it was already illegal to brandish. Such bollocks is being talked on line about this uniquely horrible case.

I know these Republican prosecutors see this as an opportunity for tough guy posturing and amateur constitutional lawyering, but ending the sale of assault weapons in Virginia isn't something an individual prosecutor can do anything about.
Local prosecutors don't enforce, they prosecute - and my message to anyone thinking about breaking Virginia law is, don't bet on Virginia law enforcement ignoring it.
