Despite sudden death, there were no signs of transplant rejection or thrombotic microangiopathy. What does this mean for future xenotransplantation? #AKIJournalClub #Xenotransplantation

The patient was evaluated 1 day before sudden death; labs were reassuring aside from mild hypomagnesemia. Autopsy revealed cardiomegaly and myocardial fibrosis, suggesting a fatal arrhythmia. This case informed post-porcine transplant care with cardiac rhythm surveillance.

Extensive metagenomic surveillance = no evidence of xeno-pathogen transmission. Week after week. That’s an important milestone! #AKIJournalClub #Xenotransplantation
