It's a black hook meaning it's likely black nickel or black-coated high-carbon steel. That means its meant to be corrosion resistant. In freshwater, it will take weeks to months, in saltwater it’ll corrode faster, but not “a few days." That's just dumb. A hook in the lip that can be removed with pliers / minimal handling benefits the shark. Leaving it, can interfere with feeding cause further injury / infection. So if the kids goal was to save the shark, he appears to have done it pretty successfully.
