The Book of Atlas trailer has over 800k views in 24 hours and the support has been incredible. One issue we're seeing is people thinking that an AI created the movie. We used AI animation tools, but the movie was written, developed, and painstakingly created by our human team.

@TheDEV1ATE @bradneuberg John Carmack leaving was the big turning point that I noticed. His exit imo was both a symptom of the changes happening at the company and a clear sign that the culture at what was left at Oculus Labs would never be the same. Destroyed from above.

@BCKrispy @bradneuberg Oculus, valve, and htc were good for vr. The minute meta (back then, Facebook) bought oculus and decided to try to monopolize the market with an anticompetitive, financially unsustainable, and actively PC-hostile HMD is easily the worst thing that has happened to this market.

It does seem like Meta has completely wiped out their positions in VR: shuttering all their game studios (Sanzuru, Twisted Pixel, etc.); shuttering their premier VR fitness app (Supernatural); and shuttering their social VR experience (Horizon Worlds). I mean, what is left? Just the hardware device itself really? I know they are working on a next gen, 100gram headset for media viewing and have claimed a Quest 4 is in the works, which I'm looking forward to, but its pretty wild to see how much they've wiped the field clean on their VR investments for now. I was a Meta VR fan boy for a long time, but its pretty sobering. I've moved alot of my own usage of XR over to my Apple Vision Pro now, but miss where the Meta VR experience was going (even though it was beginning to tilt into pretty bad slop the last year and a half to be honest). What do you think?

@bradneuberg Enabling studios like Sanzaru and Ready at Dawn to bring AMAZING VR software to market, only to buy them and sell them off for spare parts... Damn near heartbreaking.

@BCKrispy Yes I think thats true. Meta definitely kept the capital intensive dreams of VR true after PCVR dipped. If only they could have controlled their tendency towards slop. Tough to see them cull the field so intensely.

I’m not watching any news. Is the future of civilization still in question?
