@L0m3z I wish someone would find and bring heartiste and mike ma back. Create a website where we can read all the interesting takes and thoughts without having to sort through twitter slop. A sort of centralized journal for frogs and non-insane people

One reason discourse on the right is so degraded and dominated by internet psychodrama is because smart, reasonable commenters like Toad still are making the rational choice to stay sidelined, both because the financial incentives don’t make sense and because smart, reasonable people (mostly) would rather not subject themselves (and their families) to the commentariat freak show. This is solvable in exactly the order of concern: 1) dangle enough money out there so the opportunity cost for the Toad’s of the world to leave behind their comfortable, full benefits, six figure lib-corp jobs are reduced down to roughly zero, 2) these new entrants then create a self-sustaining ecosystem that can live alongside the commentariat freak show without having to be a direct part of it.

What if instead of giving money to shameless grifting whores Elon Musk threw a couple million at Spotted Toad to come out of retirement and start blogging again?

Just got a text from an Australian friend who was planning to come to the US for the World Cup. "I won't be coming to America until Trump is gone." This is a disaster for our tourist industry. Trump's descent into fascism is going to crush working Americans' pocket books.

In Italy, they refuse to curate "kid's meals" for children. Children eat what the adults eat, but in smaller proportions. This is how Italy has been able to maintain its cultural palette, while countries like England are obsessed with Gregg's and Nando's. Famously, early McDonald's executives refused to eat their own food, but marketed heavily at children. Now, the President of the United States is famous for enjoying Big Macs. If you're curious as to why modern non-denominational churches look like youth groups, that's because they are. You didn't take your children to church. You took them to youth group. And now that's what they enjoy. Adults in 2025 enjoy children's cartoons because that's what we were given. We enjoy hyperpop, J-Pop, and other similar genres because it sounds like the video game and cartoon soundtracks we grew up with. Your sense of taste is entirely defined by what you have the most experience with as a child. This should be obvious. It's the only time in your life when you can feel happy without reservation, and so the comforts and security you experience as a child will be where you retreat as an adult when things get tough. The great judiazation of culture involved adult media becoming inextricably linked to sex and violence. This is because we all have a novelty addiction, and because many of us "can" induldge in depravity without forming too guilty of a conscience. But that has an unfortunate side effect. It means that sitcoms, movies (comedies, horror flicks, dramas, etc...) have to isolated into an adult-only context. It is absolutely verboden for a child to engage in the culture of their parents. And so what do they do? They develop their own culture. They talk in the same cadence as the cartoons they grew up with. They listen to their own music. They dress in their own way. They have their own distinct set of values. And why wouldn't they? Much like inflation, severe generational gaps are a strictly modern phenomenon. People were forced to "get along" 100 years ago and earlier. The music the adults would play and the stories they would tell were nescessarily in range of children. And people were a lot more modest back then, with Christ being the center of their interactions. All this to say, nobody graduates from the "kid's table". The adults table simply gets replaced. I think the boomers know this and are terrified by it. And perhaps they should be. They are our cultural competitors.
LeafyWasHere@Foiblaet

kinda surprising to see anyone under 50 acting like 20-something’s being into “kids shows” is surprising, especially considering anyone with “adult taste” is going to work overtime making absolutely sure no child ever catches a glimpse of it
