@mirtle So Berube apparently was involved with picking players to target. And yet Pelley doesn't seem to recognize that not only is Berube getting terrible results, but he didn't know enough about skillsets to help target players for his own system! It's lunacy to keep him in there.

Just play the kids...

If Pelley really claims that the goal is to be evidence-based, Berube shouldn't still be coach. He doesn't need an expert GM or President to tell him.

@WatchMyReview @TheMugNHL I like Laughton, but they need to be thinking about bringing in good players like this before they're past their prime. They have to find gems, both in skill and personality.

@NightShiftMD Even candidates who think it's needed will come in, make an effort to get a bit better, but when it doesn't work they'll just proceed with the rebuild.

@reporterchris That comment is pretty telling about how Treliving operated and maybe Shanahan. What modern GM isn't data-centric? What kind of person hires someone as a non-data-centric GM?

Keith Pelley says he's open to the possibility of hiring both a president and GM for the revamped #leafs front office. Says there's one must for their next hire: "They have to be data centric."

@JeffVeillette they were a 51% xG team according to hockey stats and had an elite goaltending tandem. they were an overrated team with some good fortune (and health) and some red flags. but yes they were still a good team last year

Last year's Leafs were not good. They were constantly outplayed and lived off of two platoon goalies having career years and a >0.700 record in one-goal games. Ottawa was one of their easiest playoff opponents in the era and Florida controlled way more of R2 than 4-3 suggested.

@nylanderthews all makes sense except for keeping Berube on till the end of the season. I hope they get Nill.

I think Lou would have been a better fit for Leafs GM for the time period Dubas was GM and that Dubas would actually be a good fit for Leafs GM for where the franchise is currently at/heading.

Post-Treliving, annoyed that a more stable org would've done what FLA's done. "Off year, rest everyone who's even got a cold, drop for best draft pick possible." Last couple weeks should've been Aktymov, Tverberg, etc & losses. But GM incentived to scrap for wins to the end.

It's so poetic. On the same day the Leafs fire their GM who screwed over their entire team... Kyle Dubas' club won their biggest game of the year 8-3, getting production from every single Kyle Dubas pickup in the process. I was told GMKD couldn't build a bottom 6. Hmmm...

@thegoldenmuzzy Lost in a terrible system of play that stifles players by a coach that allocates playtime insanely because he doesn't recognize the connection between talent and system? Just a thought. Also, isn't he shooting some insane percentage in Seattle?

Where was this last spring? 😑 McMann finished last season on a 24 game goalless drought.
