@mirtle So Berube apparently was involved with picking players to target. And yet Pelley doesn't seem to recognize that not only is Berube getting terrible results, but he didn't know enough about skillsets to help target players for his own system! It's lunacy to keep him in there.
English

If Pelley really claims that the goal is to be evidence-based, Berube shouldn't still be coach. He doesn't need an expert GM or President to tell him.
🍂@matthews2hell
but its not a coaching issue lol

@WatchMyReview @TheMugNHL I like Laughton, but they need to be thinking about bringing in good players like this before they're past their prime. They have to find gems, both in skill and personality.
English

According to Luke Fox, the Maple Leafs may be considering a reunion with F Scott Laughton, who was dealt to the Los Angeles Kings at the trade deadline.

@MJTruthUltra Not only are the numbers and trajectory probably incorrect here, but the logic is not correct. Assuming a continual linear trajectory is silly. For example, the same logic suggests the eventual 100 m dash record will be zero seconds, which we know is ridiculous
English

Joe Rogan’s logic is solid..
If the autism rate was 1 in every 10,000 kids x amount of years ago, and today it’s 1 in every 12 kids, at some point all children born will have autism.
“Something’s going on, and don’t tell me it’s just ‘better diagnosis’s’, because that’s F*CKING HORSESH*T! That’s gaslighting to cover up for the Pharmaceutical drug complex.”

@WatchMyReview @thesheethockey @FanDuelCanada Holy crap, is this a new video? This is such an antiquated view. He talks about baseball in a way that virtually everyone in baseball has abandoned.
English

@thesheethockey @FanDuelCanada I asm confidant he used no data when he traded up to draft Tyler Biggs.
English

Data-centric vs data-driven?
Brian Burke prefers the latter and explains why the #LeafsForever should reconsider hiring a data-centric General Manager.

@NightShiftMD Even candidates who think it's needed will come in, make an effort to get a bit better, but when it doesn't work they'll just proceed with the rebuild.
English

if MLSE rejects possible GM candidates because they favour a rebuild, the #Leafs are doomed to another forty years in the proverbial desert.
Jeff Veillette@JeffVeillette
Of course they would. Someone who comes in confident that they can steer this ship back on track is on the clock. Someone who says they want to tear it down and start over has a 5+ year leash. It's about preservation, not what's necessarily the option most likely to succeed.
English

@WatchMyReview I like the idea of Mike Gillis, but he's been out of the game for quite a while and is 67. Not sure about it.
English

@SuGaR_Babbyyy time to hire someone who is better than you at hanging clocks?
English

@reporterchris That comment is pretty telling about how Treliving operated and maybe Shanahan. What modern GM isn't data-centric? What kind of person hires someone as a non-data-centric GM?
English

Keith Pelley says he's open to the possibility of hiring both a president and GM for the revamped #leafs front office.
Says there's one must for their next hire: "They have to be data centric."
English

@domluszczyszyn @JeffVeillette Was there a big differential in xG against eventual playoff teams and not? Just curious.
English

@JeffVeillette they were a 51% xG team according to hockey stats and had an elite goaltending tandem. they were an overrated team with some good fortune (and health) and some red flags. but yes they were still a good team last year
English

Last year's Leafs were not good. They were constantly outplayed and lived off of two platoon goalies having career years and a >0.700 record in one-goal games. Ottawa was one of their easiest playoff opponents in the era and Florida controlled way more of R2 than 4-3 suggested.
Reese & Charlotte & Oliver@ReeseTheBeagle
@JeffVeillette The results last year were the best in decades. 🙄
English

@nylanderthews all makes sense except for keeping Berube on till the end of the season. I hope they get Nill.
English

@joeyferg I think people don't appreciate that Lou's "Use the time you have" credo probably greatly influenced the delay and eventual overpayment of the young guns, even if he didn't do the contracts. Looking back, too much trying to fast-track things with trades and own-rentals
English

@NotLeafsNeedGod don't forget signing Hakanpää...that one was bizarre too, but Klingberg still probably wins.
English

@jtbourne And maybe have someone behind the bench who would meaningfully play those guys?
English

@WatchMyReview @nhlpens I would love to know which decisions in the Dubas era were his vs. Shanahan's.
English

Never understood what this poster meant
cinesthetic.@TheCinesthetic
Arguably the greatest poster in film history.
English

@WatchMyReview @nylanderthews Weird they didn’t fire Berube and let an assistant run the bench rest of way
English

@thegoldenmuzzy Lost in a terrible system of play that stifles players by a coach that allocates playtime insanely because he doesn't recognize the connection between talent and system? Just a thought. Also, isn't he shooting some insane percentage in Seattle?
English

Where was this last spring? 😑
McMann finished last season on a 24 game goalless drought.
NHL@NHL
Bobby McMann AGAIN 🤯 That's his sixth goal in seven games with the @SeattleKraken!
