American actor Samuel L. Jackson has traced his ancestry to the Bantu tribe of Gabon 🇬🇦. The Bantu are speakers of Bantu languages and consist of hundreds of indigenous ethnic groups across sub-Saharan Africa, stretching from Central Africa through the African Great Lakes region to Southern Africa.
He was received as a long-lost son by the Benga community and formally welcomed into the tribe, gaining rare and exceptional access to sacred ceremonies and traditional practices.

When I lived in Zambia, they called me “Mapalo” as it’s a blessing (mapalo) to receive a visitor (umweni).
Henn & Robinson show this systematically: "guest" &"stranger" tend to be the same word in African languages, but not elsewhere.
This may reflect a will to incorporate newcomers
