Here’s a spicy take:
If someone made a game almost exactly like Breath of the Wild but it wasn’t labeled as a Zelda game, it would have gotten 7-8/10s across the board due to a lack of story, weak dungeons, and weapon degradation.
I wouldn’t have given it that, and I actually LOVE both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, but people let Zelda “get away” with a lot more than other games and it gets to be a bit much to hear at times.
If something is not very good in one game, slapping it into the Zelda world doesn’t magically make the thing good. This goes for any Nintendo property btw.

@Critical_Scribe Don't really agree with this. It was a lot of people's first ever Zelda game, and those people often have it in their favorites. I actually think it gets undue criticism because its constantly compared to the formula that came before it. The game innovated.

I cannot begin to express the degree to which European warfare was outpacing Japanese warfare by the time the Samurai as we popularly know them were at their peak.
If we take the Sams as being from the 17th century, the full knight as shown here predates with better equipment.
Plate armour was common by the 15th century, centuries before the Samurai began their era of dominance.
The Samurai's main weapon, their bow, would not be able to pierce plate armour reliably. Their famous weapon of the Katana would be ineffective. Their Yari would likely be their best choice, but European Knights are at this time used to pikes and the like.
A full cavalry charge of heavy, plate armour wearing, lance wielding European knights en masse would, in my opinion, sweep away a Japanese army if we made these two time periods fight one another.
That doesn't mean that the Samurai aren't cool. They are.
It doesn't mean that the Knights are racially superior; they are not.
It is that access to better steel meant that European armies were continually able to upgrade their warfare. Japan, having poorer materials, had to develop ways in which to make their steel up to par that stopped them from making it excellent.
Knights win.
