A lot of people still don’t know the story behind Wonky Stonks. The summer of 2021 a good friend and I were discussing new trends in the crypto space, and NFTs came up. After a bit more discussion, we decided to dip our toes in the space by creating a project that would be a free mint for my community (who were mostly traders) to get experience in the space and try and help introduce more people to it. There was plenty of back and forth on ideas for what to do - but there were a few things I was certain of. I didn’t want to make another pfp project. I’ve always loved what @ArtOnBlockchain did with Chromie Squiggles, and wanted to focus on a project that was purely about the art. Why? I believe real art is transcendent of trends and time. It doesn’t require utility other than evoking emotion. So the next question is… what was the best way of doing that? Authenticity to my brand was paramount, and it finally clicked that there hadn’t been any other project to use charts as the inspiration for their generative art. It made so much sense, because when I see a chart - I *feel* the price action I see on the screen. It takes me back to memories of times and places the same way certain scents do. We went through months of iterations and received feedback from some of the people I respect most in the space. Eventually, we refined it to a final product we were proud of - that had a rich depth of diversity, and that the algo generated price action that somehow did spit out price lines that mimic real price structure. We had the algo identify and bucket different types of similar price action as certain traits, while at the same time it was guaranteed that every chart was completely unique by the way they were generated. We then did a stealth launch free mint at a time when no one else dared to, because I wanted to be as fair as possible to as many people as I possibly could, without giving anyone an advantage. I wanted to build an organic community from the ground up with no gimmicks, and I believe over the past couple of years we’ve achieved that goal. There’s a still a lot of growth left, and a lot more I plan on introducing to @Ledgart_io in the next few years. But for now, all of that is noise, because I believe in the art. I resonate with it, and I know the impact it’s had on introducing and bringing people together in this space. And for now, that’s enough.
