I am Romanian so I can laugh at the fact that the US president is a demented old man completely devoid of morality or basic human decency. But if I was American I would be ashamed of myself every single day he was in office. The world does not care "you didn't vote for him". He is YOUR president.

This fraudulent narrative has to stop. This is the kind of flawed anecdote some African Christians copy to justify the enslavement of their own people. It’s sad, especially because it is based on a completely untrue. Slavery (transatlantic slavery) began with Europeans, particularly the Portuguese arriving on the coasts of Africa and kidnapping people indiscriminately. Yes, it started with kidnapping. From there, they moved to formalize and commercialize the practice, and eventually constructing slave dungeons to sustain the trade. They would approach natives and deceive them into believing they were building trading centers. By the time these structures were completed, it became clear that they were not trading posts but slave dungeons. Anyone who resisted was killed and their village burned. There were many rulers in Ghana who were either killed or exiled for resisting this idea. (Go and read about them). Once these Europeans had established and legitimized their slave dungeons, they began arming different groups along the coast to fight one another. War captives were then brought to these dungeons and sold. Many of those captured only realized they had been played when they found themselves together on the same European slave ships. It’s sad that our people don’t know their history.

Little education is dangerous. Little knowledge is cancerous. This is one such example. The most basic mistake of treating the Ashanti Empire as Ghana could be cured by a simple Google search. For the complex historical facts about the difference between customary modes of servitude and that of mercantile European slavery, I may pardon you. A book is what you need. Not cursing!
Lekan Olayinka@lekan_olayinka1

Dear Ghana, the Asante Empire which is now modern day Ghana were leaders of slavery around 1701-1900. They heavily depended on enslaved Africans to sustain their gold, cotton driven economy. Historians conclude that around 6,500 slaves were added to the empire annually. This means Ghana, a superpower then, actually raided inland Africa and enslaved them. They were the ones who supplied the Europeans with enslaved Africa at the Chattel slave trade. So, why is the slave trade the gravest humanitarian sin and not the Africans who enslaved their own? Finally, this sudden “fight” for social justice has all the signals of some international powers pulling the strings. This is a speculation. A wild one. But I know when international giants are using an African nation as their tool. But dear Ghana, slavery was a humanity crime. It is gone, largely. Let Africa now fights its own internal battles of corruption, disregard for the rule of law. These are the real enemies of Africa, not an event that happened 400 years which nobody here today witnessed or experienced.

@johannesmkx The problem with the internet is that many people have opinions on topics they know little about. You’d think that in an age where information is so accessible, they would take the time to do some research.

It is the world that should be demanding reparations from Ghana for slavery, not the other way around. Ghana used to be the Kingdom of Dahomey which captured most black slaves. Slaves that couldn't be sold to the Arabs were killed or eaten. These people have balls but not as big as our bombs. It's necessary to teach black people their history.

@B1TuckerCarlson Ghana was not a country then; it consisted of distinct tribes, many of which were armed and funded by European powers. Plus African Americans also participated as slavers were also captured and sold into slavery.

@shitbeast_arc @chico_ray Why should the Holocaust take precedence when far more people were affected by slavery, not to mention its lasting generational impact? Israel and the Jewish population received billions in compensation for the Holocaust.

This is so stupid. Please tell me the Western world understands that there were other—more brutal—forms of slavery in the world apart from the trans-Atlantic slave trade? The Arab slave trade lasted longer and killed more people. That’s also without acknowledging the fact that there is slavery happening right now!!

@MrBumBlaster @DanielJHannan Arabs have also gotten away with a lot because of this, hiding their atrocities in Europes shadows. European slave owners received reparations and more recently, Jewish communities have as well, so there is a precedent for seeking justice 🤷‍♂️

@MrBumBlaster @DanielJHannan For the past 400 years, European powers have dominated and controlled the world. Much of history during this period centers on Europe and its actions. Slavery and colonialism contributed greatly to modern Europe and America and helped establish the current world order.

Every country practised slavery. African nations more enthusiastically and more recently than most. So why go after Britain, which is unique in its determination to stamp out the foul trade? Why not, say, China or Nigeria or Saudi? Because Britain keeps inviting its enemies to have a go. It will not sanction countries that back motions like this. Incredibly, it would not even vote against the motion. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/03/2…

@Buschcorner @DanielJHannan The British government did not arm & finance the capture of slaves in Africa. It spent a huge fortune stopping slavery by African slaves.

@MrBumBlaster @DanielJHannan They should also be asked for repatriations however historical distance makes establishing direct legal or financial responsibility complicated. Plus, less documented or acknowledged internationally. Plus there was post slavery resource extraction which is still ongoing.

@EggySoldier @DanielJHannan I agree, it’s still occurring in some regions today. However, the transatlantic slave trade was the largest in history, forcibly transporting an estimated 10 to 12.5 million people.

@EggySoldier @DanielJHannan Every action has consequences. The current tensions didn’t emerge in isolation, events like the 1953 Iranian coup played a major role. The US & the Uk were involved in removing Iran’s democratically elected Prime Minister, after he moved to nationalise the country’s oil industry
