In the 1960s our dress code said boys had to wear shirts with collars and tails tucked in. no jeans. I remember penny loafers were “in”; no tennis shoes. Cranberry was the “in” color for sweaters. Madras shirts were very cool. I also wore Banlon polo shirts (a stretchy elastic shirt with woven patterns, designed to be worn untucked.) Girls wore skirts or dresses or jumpers, no long pants or shorts. On game day, the cheerleaders were allowed to wear their uniforms in school (that was a breakthrough) But I think they didn’t change until lunchtime.

NEW: Marcus Burks' family attorney releases bodycam showing he repeatedly said “I can’t breathe” 5 times before going unconscious during Newburgh police arrest On January 1, 2026, Marcus Burks fled from New York State Police over a traffic violation, crashed into another car and a pole, flipping his vehicle on Broadway in Newburgh. Newburgh police arrived and pepper-sprayed Burks in the face while trying to handcuff him. Bodycam video shows Burks saying “I can’t breathe” at least five times in roughly 25 seconds as officers pressed on his back. He then went silent and unresponsive. Officers continued giving commands before realizing he was unconscious and rolling him off his stomach. Burks was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital. His family and attorney are calling for police reform in Newburgh.

During the wee hours of Thursday, March 26th, a little after 3:30, PCSO deputies went to a motel room on 8th St NW in Winter Haven to locate a wanted suspect. A warrant had been issued for 53-year old Luis Arnaldo Bonilla Santiago for Failure to Appear (Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia). As luck would have it, Luis also had a pending complaint affidavit against him from Winter Haven PD for Battery by Strangulation and Grand Theft. So it was like killing two birds with one stone, only no birds were killed... not even injured. Although we did probably ruffle a few feathers because it did happen at a motel in the middle of the night. Deputies located Luis at the motel and took him into custody without incident, and he was taken to the Sheriff's Processing Center and booked-in. #PCSO #PolkSheriff #ArrestedByThePolkCountySheriffsOffice

33-year old Maria Teresa Gonzalez of Lakeland hasn't been having a good 2026 so far. In February, Lakeland Police charged her with theft from a Dillard's store. Theft is a thing for Maria. She's had multiple convictions for it in the past, and in fact, Maria was put on probation for felony petit theft last June. So when LPD charged her last month, she violated her probation. Old habits die hard. Then the State Attorney's Office determined that Maria had also stolen from an Ulta Beauty store and filed another charge of Felony Petit Theft plus Resisting a Merchant against her and a warrant was issued for her arrest, On Wednesday night, March 25th, PCSO deputies received information that Maria was at a residence on Sunset Way in Lakeland. When deputies entered the home, they found Maria hiding under bed sheets and took her into custody. Maria Teresa Gonzalez was taken to the Sheriff's Processing Center on her warrants for: Felony Petit Theft (two warrants), Resisting a Merchant, and Violation of Probation (Felony Petit Theft, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
