The 2025 Girls and Allies Youth Summit brought together FRC and FTC students for a full day of inspiration, hands-on learning, and meaningful connections at @CentennialEDU. The day began with interactive activities and a motivating keynote from FIRST alum Angela Tollis, followed by a collaborative team challenge and fast-paced speed networking with industry professionals. Students also enjoyed free professional headshots, a practical branding session, and friendship bracelet making led by the Youth Council before diving into creative tech and skilled trades workshops, including VR and other hands-on learning. Thank you to our partners, speakers, volunteers, and every student who joined us. This event continues to build belonging and empower the next generation of leaders. We can’t wait to see everyone again in 2026! It was truly inspiring to see the excitement and enthusiasm as educators built confidence in the safe use of the STAC (Science Technology Application Centre) lab tools, empowering hands-on, creative learning in classrooms across Peel. This full-day session ensured that @peelschools teachers are certified and comfortable operating STAC lab equipment, including General Shop Safety, Machine Specific Safety, Hand Tools, Metrology Tools, Scroll Saw, Vertical Bandsaw, Drill Press, and Disc & Belt Sander. STAC SPARK provides an introductory experience for teachers, giving students and teachers early exposure to tools and technology, preparing them for the skilled workforce from as early as Grade 5. Over the past two years, we have been successfully training Peel teachers, and we continue this work to equip educators with the skills to use these incredible STAC labs safely. This ensures that hands-on Science and Technology learning is both engaging and safe for students. @PaulCalandra @PDSBDirector

Our Meet an Archaeologist series wraps up today! What if you could explore the past without even holding the artifact? Than Homerski, Outreach Coordinator with the Ontario Archaeological Society – Grand River, uses 3D modelling and laser scanning to create digital versions of artifacts. These let researchers study every tiny detail — without risking damage to the original. Than loves that archaeology is a science — using real tools and methods to learn how people lived, worked, and had fun long ago. And remember: there might even be clues to the past right under your feet! See all the archaeologists featured in the series: ow.ly/KQOs50X8G5p Have a question about archaeology? Our Meet an Archaeologist series continues! What can ancient trade networks teach us about how people connected across the world? Scott Gallimore, a Roman archaeologist who works in Greece, studies how artifacts reveal where objects were made and how they traveled thousands of years ago. His favorite find? A 6,000-year-old Neolithic figurine pendant discovered on the island of Crete — a piece of history small enough to hold in your hand. Our Meet an Archaeologist series continues! What can ancient burials and bones tell us about how people lived long ago? Robert Stark, a bioarchaeologist from the University of Waterloo, studies medieval sites in Sudan to uncover clues about health, diet, and daily life in the past. One of his most exciting finds? A perfectly preserved ground stone axe—discovered during a field survey! See all the archaeologists featured in the series: ow.ly/KQOs50X8G5p Have a question about archaeology?
