What average annual return would you be satisfied with? Every investor needs to ask themselves this question each time they buy a stock. For me, I only buy a stock if I expect it to return at least 15% in a base case. A 15% long term goal is enough to soundly beat the market without taking on unnecessary risk, which is why I think it's a good goal to shoot for. Am I playing too conservative here? Or am I crazy for thinking I can get 15% long term?
