Breaking news Hein Odendaal Sentenced in Steinhoff International Fraud Case as Fifth Conviction Secured Former Steinhoff executive Hein Odendaal, who was previously involved in auditing and signing off on the retailer’s financial statements, has been sentenced in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in connection with the long‑running Steinhoff fraud saga. Odendaal pleaded guilty to failing to report fraudulent activities that resulted in fictitious income and misleading audited financial statements. He received a four‑year prison sentence or an alternative R2 million fine, along with an additional two‑year term wholly suspended for five years and one year of correctional supervision. This marks the fifth conviction secured so far in the criminal investigation into the accounting irregularities that precipitated Steinhoff’s collapse.
