The latest workation hack is here.
I have been working from udaipur for a week now.
So workation sounds fancy until you actually do it right.
It is not about waking up at 11, opening laptop in a cafe, pretending to work, then feeling guilty the whole day. Been there, did that, ngmi.
Real workation is simple:
- Wake up early.
- Finish the important work before the world becomes noisy.
- Use Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or whatever tools you have to move faster, not to become lazy.
- Do the calls.
- Ship the tasks.
- Reply to people.
- Close the loops.
Then in the evening, go sit near a ghat for sometime and let your brain breathe.
Today I came to Ambrai Ghat and spending some time here after work. It feels so good and peaceful tbh.
And honestly, this is the kind of life software engineers should aim for.
Not just remote work where you are stuck in your room with Slack open all day.
But real location freedom.
Do focused work in the morning.
Explore a little in the evening.
Walk near water.
Sit silently.
Think about life.
Come back with a slightly clearer mind.
AI tools have made this much easier now. Earlier, you needed a perfect setup, multiple monitors, too much context switching. Now with Claude and ChatGPT, you can unblock yourself faster, write better, debug faster, understand code faster, and use your mental energy for the actual hard decisions.
But the trick is discipline.
AI will not save you if your daily pattern is broken.
You still need to wake up early.
You still need to focus.
You still need to finish the work first.
Then the travel feels earned.
Otherwise workation becomes just guilt in a different city.
Maybe this is the new dream for software engineers.
Not escaping work.
But designing a life where work, travel, health, learning, and peace can exist together.
Morning for deep work.
Evening for ghats.
Night for reflection.
Repeat.
Taking off my airpods now... What a relief .. ngl
I used to hate being a software engineer but some super smart guys came up with ai agents. It's the best job in the world rn.
