One year ago, I was elected to represent Newmarket—Aurora.
Only in Canada could a little girl who once walked the dusty streets of Ecuador grow up to stand in the House of Commons with a voice.
I still see it. My father’s eyes, filled with something words can’t quite hold. All the sacrifice, all the long days, all the courage it took for him and my mother to start again in a new country.
And in that single moment, you could read it plainly: It was worth it.
I carry that with me.
Every time I rise to speak, I do so with humility, knowing I’ve been entrusted with something precious: to be the voice of my beautiful community of Newmarket-Aurora in Ottawa.
