Today is the National Day of Mourning, a day to honour the workers who have lost their lives, been injured, or fallen ill because of their work. I’m honoured to have been entrusted with one of nineteen iron roses by BC Ironworkers Local 97 — each one representing a life lost when the Second Narrows bridge collapsed in Vancouver in 1958. Seventy-nine men fell. Nineteen never came home. We mourn the dead. We fight for the living.
