This is an incredible and worthwhile effort spearheaded by Xuan Feng (@FelxFeng) along with many folks from @MSFTResearch and several of us at @siebelschool. Our hope is that the Systems community can come together to help figuring out how to "teach" AI to think about systems.
System Intelligence@SysIntelligenc

Iโ€™m excited to introduce the System Intelligence project which aims to build a future where advanced AI can design, implement, and operate next-generation computing systems. To realize this vision, we must unlock AI's next stage of capabilities โ€“ reasoning about architectures and protocols, weighing tradeoffs, applying enduring principles, developing effective abstractions, and more โ€“ beyond coding and bug fixing. We share our efforts on defining System Intelligence and our perspective on how to realize it in a recent SIGOPS Blog (sigops.org/2025/defining-โ€ฆ). We regard benchmarks as an initial foundation, and have been developing a System Intelligence Benchmark. Weโ€™d love to hear your feedback and look forward to your contributions! ๐ŸŒ Website: sys-intelligence.github.io ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ GitHub: github.com/sys-intelligenโ€ฆ!

CS researchers: NSDI 2027 explicitly declines to include work in some topics that are technically in scope (search for "Moreover, NSDI does not include work inโ€ฆ"). Are there other elite conferences that are also doing this? Pointers welcome, thanks! usenix.org/conference/nsdโ€ฆ

Back in 2012, I applied to six PhD programs, and had 0 calls before I received decisions. Now, I've heard of students doing up to 30 Zoom calls over the course of a PhD application season. Sounds exhausting. Anyone have numbers for reference from their own experiences?

A new article from @ai4research_ucb (@audreyccheng @shulynnliu @melissapan @mertcemri @istoica05 and co). The article is very informative and the question is no longer whether AI could help solve systems research problems but how much AI can improve the state of the art.
