@arvindpawan1 Agreed. I think the class element obscures analysis too. Lot of focus recently on dividends and buybacks in O&G, not realising it’s from high prices and decreasing capex due to the decline of the sector which is exactly what they (and we) want.

Part of the problem is that degrowth evangelists aren’t careful about what they mean precisely or say how they’d go about achieving it and do more than simply making vague statements around sustainability, limits of GDP measure, inequality, and quality of life.
Dr. Genevieve Guenther (she/they) 🪬@DoctorVive

Nobody argues that degrowth *wouldn't work* to draw down both extraction and pollution to sustainable levels. The argument against degrowth is that the global north would never accept it as an economic system. Just think about that for a second...

@Noahpinion Have you done a post on why Japan seems to be simultaneously technologically advanced and behind?

@JlMBO_JONES @Tsunehme @LynAldenContact @awealthofcs QE is more specifically this asset transfer type rather than direct cash. I agree the latter would increase inflation, but there’s lot of literature around why QE didn’t lead to inflation.

The Fed needs to raise rates as quickly as possible to tame inflation by sending us into a recession where they can then cut rates to save us from the recession

@DrPippaM @Yahoo I’ve wondered for a while if once China became rich enough it’s leaders would turn back to doing the stupid stuff communist governments do.

Marxism Makes a Comeback in China’s Crackdown on ‘Disorderly Capital’. The West bet wrong. We thought that once China was on a market path, it would never revert. They are reverting to Communism. Now how do we all adjust? ca.news.yahoo.com/marxism-makes-… via @Yahoo

@DisMahhhlon @MollyJongFast As horrific as those 2 cases are and shouldn’t happen at all, no they are not statistically likely. Individuals that get out there are very likely to experience some upside risk however minor. For those sadly harassed police, that would happen whether they were networking or not.

@DisMahhhlon @MollyJongFast These are not likely, that is the point. It’s more dangerous crossing a road or getting in a car.

@DisMahhhlon @MollyJongFast Worked for the PoC in my post. I don’t think it’s healthy to overstate unlikely risks. Individuals that engage in this networking are much more likely to experience upside risk or nothing.

@DisMahhhlon @MollyJongFast I’m not talking about actual lottery tickets but the advice of knocking on doors to network; as per the original and my post.

@DisMahhhlon @MollyJongFast It’s a call option. Minimal downside and unlimited upside. It wasn’t sold as a guarantee of anything so I think it’s fair.

If innovation were really to resolve the climate crisis, wouldn't new forms of electricity production be catalyzing the creative destruction of the fossil fuel industry? Yet fossil fuel development still outpaces clean energy deployment. 1/n

@DrPippaM Feels very 90s. Maybe people are going to become more optimistic about the future like they were in the 90s?

@Noahpinion @EarlofDundonald Amazing how many people wilfully misunderstand your point given they have all had annual appraisals at work.

@KetanJ0 It’s no longer true with the IPR Forecast and Required policy response scenarios from the UNPRI looking at 1.5 and 2C worlds with current tech.

@pmagn Yes, the existing 1.5C and the 2.0C scenarios are implicitly and overtly based on the development and widespread implementation by 2100 of effective forms of carbon capture and sequestration methods yet to be developed.

Decades of research show that global warming is tied primarily to greenhouse gas emissions from the human burning of fossil fuels. When those emissions stop, warming stops within a few years. Download the graphic here: climate.nasa.gov/climate_resour…
