It’s beginning to sound like:
* Pakistani mediators lied to the US about Iran signalling privately they’d come to talks
* Claimed public statements were just posturing, and there was willingness on certain topics
* They were trying to get the US delegation on a plane to then convince Iran to come
* US has other channels with Iran not via the Pakistani mediators and realized this
* Iran has actually held ground on uranium, opening the Strait and not attending talks on the current US terms
* US team is coming up with various excuses (including latest Barak Ravid team) as they don’t want to be seen as having been “tricked”
* There is still debate on if they put Vance on a plane tomorrow morning can they get the Iranians to commit in that 16 hour window or not.
I doubt we’ll ever get a confirm on this as the story would be incredibly embarrassing to the US, the administration and Pakistan, and so every party will make up some excuse.
But unless Rubio and the State Department can rapidly smooth things over and salvage this second round of talks, my hunch is that will be the end of Islamabad as the mediators and we’ll likely see someone like the Swiss step in.

According to a source, one of the rumors going around parts of the administration right now is: * The Pakistani government is so desperate to impress Trump here that they embellished on Iran's commitment to show up. * Vance's "delayed schedule" is in hopes that by the time he arrives Iran has come to the table. But, the administration is deeply concerned Iran is just going to stand him up.

Just three hours ago, my colleague and her family were arrested in Pakistan and taken to a camp.
They tried to leave Pakistan legally yesterday, but Pakistani officials at the airport prevented them.
Today, they raided their guest house and arrested them.

The most important element in this image is the Afghan Jezail. The handmade, long-range rifle developed by Afghans for precision marksmanship against invading British forces. It was the sniper rifle of its time, capable of striking targets from around 500 meters. British soldiers marching through valleys of Afghanistan often found themselves under fire from “ghosts” in the mountains. Its development and use played a decisive role in defeating the British.

In ~1999, Pakistan had 108.8 million people living in extreme poverty.
in 2024, this number was 116.5 million. One of the few places in the world where the number has gone up.
