@AmoghDS Thanks for reading. Glad you found it useful, and look forward to following your project

I know I’m a little late, but this is a cracking piece on polling by @swajcmanearle in the NYRB. Giving me plenty to mull over for my new project on pollsters in India.
(And oh, the irony of tweeting about this, given what the essay argues!)

@rod_earle I'll file that as another 'life-changing' response (and send you a pdf!)

@swajcmanearle Can’t get past paywall but LSE prof Patrick Sturgis was at Surrey Uni when I taught there and told me a lot about the dark arts of polling….

A flawed politician, of mercurial character & with a history of policy error, got the single greatest issue of modern times right and literally saved western civilisation from barbarism. We’re all in his debt. This doesn’t seem to me a complex, let alone a contestable, judgment.

I wrote this for @LRB on the dehumanisation of Palestinians in #Gaza in UK newspaper front page photographs. I found only a tiny handful of images in which Palestinians were named. Israelis, on the other hand, do not face the same treatment... lrb.co.uk/blog/2024/apri…

Some fascinating added context on this from @lionel_trolling - including an exchange between Trump and the architect Philip Johnson in 1992. 'You'd make a great mafioso,' Johnson says. 'One of the greatest,' Trump replies. unpopularfront.news/p/mob-boss
