Missouri's murder rate is 73% HIGHER than California's. No amount of right-wing spinning can change reality: our state is investing in prevention, enforcement, and is holding criminals accountable. Fix your own failed policies before lecturing us.
Senator Eric Schmitt@SenEricSchmitt

California is covering for criminals. Not punishing them. Not stopping them. Covering for them. The paper trail is bloodier and far worse than you could even imagine.🧵

Curious to know what state the building was in prior to renovation? Check out my post with interior photos. Looking forward to checking this one out once complete. cityscene-stl.com/post/the-grand…

At Grand & Miami, the redevelopment of the Grandview Arcade by RiseSTL and Lutheran Development Group is rolling along. More new windows have been installed and you can see drywall and electrical boxes up in some of the units on the 2nd floor. A century old building, restored.

Just noticed I said “Haney”, not “Hanley”. Meant to say 200 South Hanley. It’s that Mid-Century office building that has that rock climbing wall look to it.

On the northern edge of the Central West End, one of the neighborhood's few remaining vacant buildings is undergoing a redevelopment into housing and community space. cityscene-stl.com/post/central-w…

@Slim_to_No_Odds I think the architect might’ve used AI, but even the plan submitted to the city show the formers not being in-line, which will bother me.

@CitySceneSTL There're some strange things going on in that rendering - offsets on lower level that don't get reflected above and why are the dormers not in coincident bays with the windows below?

The new development consisting of 16, two-bedroom apartments in a row house style building at 18th and Barton is underway. The basement and foundations have been poured. This is on the western edge of the Soulard neighborhood and borders I-55. Design matches the neighborhood.

Like the suburbs, there are parks. And people who live outside of the City bring their kids down to the Zoo and Science Center. Get the public schools improved, and you’ll see families move in, settle down and stay. My siblings and I were born and raised in the City. It’s entirely possible despite the narrative and we’re proud of where we were raised, as are our friends (some of whom are having kids now and settling down in the City).

@felling1331 I’ll need to go back and try to find the plans to answer that question, but I hope brick wraps the entire building

@CitySceneSTL Does that brick surround the building or does it change over to vinyl siding?

@serenitynowhere Might come as a surprise to you, but I’m not paid at all. I do this on my own terms, anon. I guess it’s truly hard for you to believe someone has a different opinion than you.

Bouncing back to my evening post. We can celebrate the good things that have been occurring in the City (as I do) while acknowledging the problems the City still faces. Two things can always be true, just like there’s people who root for the decline of the City and its rebirth.

I’ve never seen people hate on a City as much as St. Louis, especially hated on by “locals”. And by “locals”, I mean those West County and St. Charles County residents who wouldn’t even be here if it weren’t for the City but would love for the City to be completely leveled.

@SeminoleScout7 In my opinion, school quality is number 1 right now. Crime is number 2 and continuing to fall as the crime rate appears to be on a continued slide, but perceptions of safety remains a big concern despite falling numbers. 3 would be infrastructure (roads, bridges and sidewalks).

I noticed the newest Budweiser ad uses Sportsman’s Park as the backdrop for the MLB themed cans. The legend of Sportsman’s Park continues even 60 years after it was demolished.

I admit my comments came off as divisive, and I only slightly apologize. I encourage productive dialogue to advance the City and greater Region, but it requires those in certain areas to not be as dismissive & divisive in their own ways. We can, and should, build a stronger STL

If not for the City, the Metro Area, and the millions of people who live in it, wouldn’t be there. It wouldn’t exist. Everyone should be advocating for a stronger City to lift up the region to new heights, not trash it. Work remains to be done and it’ll take a while yet.

I’m not defending the politicians. I’m pointing out that things are happening. Whether you take that one way or another is entirely up to you and it’s obvious you feel things aren’t going the right way, which is fine up to a point. But to ignore the positives that have occurred is ridiculous.

Should we ignore the millions of dollars spent and renovating old homes, multifamily buildings, and old commercial buildings in that neighborhood, or across the City in general? Should we ignore the numerous new small businesses that have opened up in recent years? Paint isn’t the point. It’s the other things I mentioned that are. None of it’s delusional because you disagree.

@CitySceneSTL Hilarious that you use “locals” in quotes and “pretentious residents” while looking down your nose at the vast majority of the people thet make up metro STL. Maybe accept the city we all love has REAL issues & work on them w/o disparaging those who dare point them out to you.
