Coach Beede

I believe baseball can open powerful academic doors for the right student-athlete. But the path has to be honest. Prep school is not for everyone. A post-grad year is not for everyone. Showcases are not magic. College recruiting is not one-size-fits-all. I built Coach Beede to help families slow the process down, ask better questions, and build a plan around development, academics, maturity, and fit. I have lived this as an athlete, a college head coach, and most importantly, as a parent.

I have watched families spend thousands chasing attention. I understand why. They want to create opportunity for their athlete. But opportunity usually comes from the right combination of development, academics, timing, performance, communication, and fit.

@CoachBeede 💯. And if it were just about baseball, I might argue against the ROI. But all of those things together should make arrival on a college campus and start to a college baseball and academic career more seamless and successful.

Prep/boarding school baseball is not just about baseball. Families also have to think about independence, academics, structure, social maturity, distance from home, cost, and whether the athlete is truly ready for that environment. Fit matters.

Can’t agree more. It’s a complex decision. We sent our oldest to prep school in ‘24 for a post grad year. We had a tough choice among schools, but ultimately chose @avonoldfarms. While his baseball pursuits didn’t turn out the way we expected, everything else about Avon was fantastic, and our son gained so much from his experience there. So, somewhat ironically, it was a good investment even though the primary objective wasn’t achieved - but only because everything else about Avon was such a wonderful fit.

@CoachBeede @ESProspects Aren’t most these kids at prep/boarding schools that are 19, playing as a post grad? If so then they go by first graduation year correct?

My take on the NCAA’s latest proposal 👀: We discussed this last evening. They’re looking at a 5-year eligibility clock that starts on your 19th birthday OR high school graduation (whichever comes first). No redshirts, no waivers, except for military service, religious missions, or maternity leave. This would open up more roster spots for true freshmen, change how coaches recruit & develop, and keep college sports feeling like college sports. Huge implications for high school athletes and programs! @bsblbluebook

@mikerohr12 The rule currently has 19.6 age /HS graduation stipulation on it but as currently written, he would not be affected by new rule if he attended a Post Graduate School

@CoachBeede Will post grad start th clock under new NCAA rules? My son will be a hs freshman but essentially won’t turn 18 until May of his senior year. Hes smart and no reason to hold back. I always thought a year of post grad would be a better alt than holding back-but now not sure.

Baseball families: What is the most confusing part of the process right now? Prep school? Post-grad? Showcases? Coach communication? High-academic recruiting? Knowing whether your athlete is truly recruitable? I want to keep creating content that actually helps.

The more families ask me about NCAA eligibility, roster limits, post-grad years, JUCO paths, and high-academic recruiting, the more I come back to the same point: Do not build the plan around fear. Build it around facts. Build it around fit. Build it around the whole athlete.

For some athletes, baseball can become a bridge to academic excellence. But that bridge has to be built carefully. Course rigor. Grades. Development. Maturity. Communication. Character. Fit. None of those pieces can be faked late.
