@Compleatdm

The Compleat DM on Substack I talk about games that bore most people. Writing a novel serial called METLHED, bloody-pulp fiction inspired by boomer shooters.

@oggm_adventures This is coming from a man who relies on AI to give him the Coles Notes on game she has never played so he can relay them as deep knowledge. Everything he has to say about games is completely irrelevant.

You are a low level nothingburger surface scraping megalomaniac. Being an old fart who has been playing the game badly for decades doesn't put you in a position of authority. If anything it makes you look suspiciously inept. You are a can of condensed soup in the aisle.

@RobNecronomicon @micpewpew ? If so, Condor could play for ten thousand more years and still wouldn't be good enough to be giving Mike advice on how to run games.

@Compleatdm Yeah, what a moron! BTW, did you see the vid where he tried to school that Mike OSR guy on his GMing skills??😂 He made an unsolicited advice vid criticizing Mike's online shadowdark game. Only a horrible narcissist would do such a thing. youtube.com/watch?v=8OaOEP…

King here doing the dance of bullet death. I could watch STG play like this all day. The problem when I watch too much or play too much is that when I close my eyes I can still see streams of bullets for awhile. Same as the Tetris effect or "Pac-Man Fever".

@coldhate666 It is, to me, it's similar to writing fiction. I write a lot but my writing improved substantially when reading non-fiction because reality informs stories. Same with music, if you just listen to the kind of music you are writing, you can stagnate quickly.

Despite the high level complexities of Star Vanguard it will be exceedingly easy for anyone to run sessions within it. I'm doing all the crunch on my end and my written rules for doing so right now are just a collection of tables and equations.

@0ldSch00l13 AD&D and Traveller5 to me are incredible tools to facilitate GM growth and act as a template of operations for running complex campaigns so they have eternal value. But I agree, I do like small press games that are more limited in scope. Dragonbane is a favorite.

Trying to purge the culture war stuff from my algorithm. While I truly believe AD&D 1e is the best rpg of all time and still holds the crown, I still love indie, bespoke, and small press rpgs. Found a few I really liked this past week:

@0ldSch00l13 @DunderMoose @arrnonymous_ With sufficiently developed and maintained systems of automation storytelling has no place. Whether desired or not it simply isn't necessary. Active play informs the Watercooler stories.

@DunderMoose @Compleatdm @arrnonymous_ Or what you do when you get together years later. "Remember that time we fought Gargoyles for an hour and then Jimmy asked if we needed magic weapons to damage them?"

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but the DM is not the source of fun. They can ruin it, but they don’t provide it.

I am only the ultimate "authority" of it because I'm the author of the universe it takes place in and someone has to manage high level mechanical and political structure so that the world can evolve and progress beyond a static template.

This goes to something @DunderMoose was saying earlier. I'm no longer interested in games with the traditional GM/Player structure. I prefer to look at them as a machine with human parts whose roles are to add to a developing milieu through play.

Star Vanguard will run in 1:3 time compression where 1 month in real time is equal to three months in game time or Tg = 3 * Tr. At 1:1 it would be glacial to operate. The primary inspiration is Stellaris which the game will be a tabletop version of effectively.
