I read an interesting take on why Sony may be pulling back from pushing PC releases and instead focusing more heavily on exclusives. Some people frame this as a response to Xbox, but I’m not convinced that’s the real driver. A more interesting possibility is the rise of a Steam-based console ecosystem. Consoles largely exist because they provide a cheaper, simpler alternative to gaming PCs. For most households, a dedicated gaming console is easier to justify than building or maintaining a high-end PC. However, if Valve releases a new Steam console that provides a console-like experience while still giving players access to the entire PC game library, that could become a very compelling option. In that scenario, if Sony were releasing all of its games day-and-date on PC, the Steam console could effectively offer the best of all worlds: console simplicity with the full breadth of PC gaming. It would be quite ironic if, after decades of traditional console competition, Valve ultimately ended up winning the console war.

@AirwingMarine I’ve seen so many ‘estimates’ where people just assume that they had a full team of 200 (or whatever) people working on it the whole time. But anyone who knows even a little bit about development can tell you these projects start out small, like 10 or less people working on it.

Is there any reliable information on what Marathon actually cost to develop? Every single number I've seen so far is sourced from some dumb ass content creator who pulled it out of their ass. The $250 million estimate isn't even a good one. The more I dig, the less clear it is.

Here's what I have heard: Yes, the game is set within the God of War universe & the lead character will be Faye. Gameplay is said to differ from the Norse God of War games with more of a focus on action. Current plan: Reveal this year/release first half 2027 - barring any delay
