@BP4Politics @RealPData This is totally doable. Very doable. In fact. I would expect this as a baseline if Thune is still leader and the SAVE Act has not been passed. If SAVE passes - there will be some contests. Without the SAVE Act, incumbents are getting tossed.

@RealPData Dems netted 6 additional Senate seats, 31 House seats and 6 governorships in 2006. If it gets worse than that in 2026, yikes. But Republicans are in trouble, there is no denying.

The biggest polling story right now, at least from our end, may not be what voters are saying, but who is not showing up at all. Across voter-file-based samples, too many Trump voters are missing to write off as random noise. A year ago, they were much easier to reach. Now, in file after file, parts of the Republican coalition just are not there. And rest assured, when we are not in the field, we are working on these exact issues. You can weight demographics. You can test recall. But you cannot fully recreate a voter bloc that is not responding and, in some cases, simply is not there. That does not mean every missing Trump voter has defected. Some of this is still nonresponse bias, and a lot of it may be non-ignorable. But when the same pattern keeps repeating, it starts to look less like a polling quirk and more like a genuine political warning sign. If that is what we are seeing, 2026 could be a very rough cycle for Republicans and a very strong one for Democrats.

Checking out is the issue. If the incumbent is not primaried, the voters may not show up for the incumbent in November.

Voters gave Republicans the Senate to deliver results on border security, spending, and election integrity, not to hide behind procedural excuses. Protecting the ‘institution’ at the expense of action is exactly why the Senate has lost credibility with the American people.
