@Architect9000 Idk why people keep calling the democratic socialists communists. From a European perspective most of this stuff is just boring centrist policy….europe also is quite nice and quality of life is quite high. I’m actually moving back myself 😂

My whole life has been built on rationalism. The thing I dislike most about communists is their reckless pursuit of central planning and redistributive economic policies without any empirical evidence or precedent that it actually works. In fact, all evidence is contrary to their claims. These people are an affront to progress and civilization.

@Architect9000 You think it would cost less to buy an existing grocery chain? This sounds more like they are just partnering with a an existing grocer…I’m a big Zohran fan but simply mandating more Trader Joe’s would probably have the best outcome 😂.

@CyberHyrax If the operator is going to be private, why not just buy an existing grocer, or straight up subsidize existing grocers by cutting their taxes/rent.

I once had the idea to setup an Indian-style Dabbawalas service in the US. Think cafeteria food meets group Doordash for places like offices, schools, or others wanting to get 10+ meals at once. After some analysis, I was surprised how expensive it would still be in the US. To figure out why, I deeply studied Walmart's grocery logistics and value-add. You can just imagine what I learned about their efficiency at scale. If Mamdani thinks he's gonna out-price a large national chain, especially a behemoth like Walmart, with a 5-location operation just by shaving rent and taxes, he is certifiably insane. Mark my words: NYC public grocery will either be more expensive than private alternatives or they'll have to subsidize the grocery prices on top of everything else. Don't let someone who has never started a business use taxpayers' money for his first try. Mamdani has only ever held a job once, and it was for a year at a non-profit where he had < 10% success rate on foreclosure counseling cases. This man's only skill is telling dejected people that we should use other people's money to fix their problems.

@VinnyLingham bad take... the real question is if you want someone to tamper with election laws who tried to steal an election previously. "gee why are people upset with the fascists wanting to change the election laws??" ... voter id would be fine but context matters

Why is this controversial in the USA? I'm originally from South Africa, and you cannot vote there without a South African ID. The real question then is: Are we ok with non-citizens voting in our elections? I don't know a country in the world that allows that.
