In this case, the executive proposes an amnesty decree, seeks the views of the legislature, likely disregards these, and proceeds as initially planned. For clemency, the Supreme Court's advice is more important as the proposal begins from below, with the prisoner him/herself.

yahoo.com/news/indonesia… This one is interesting because it says something about where power lies in Indonesian politics. The Indonesian Constitution (Art 14) states that the president grants amnesty after considering the advice of the legislature 1/2

on the other hand, the mooted resumption of executions won't help Indonesian citizens sentenced to death abroad at all. A significant way for Prabowo to help these people is to continue Indonesia's moratorium at home.

Presidential Amnesty, her other procedural option, tends to be granted for different reasons altogether: to reward previous service to the nation. But it's not unusual in death penalty cases. 2/2

A timely move by Biden, although I can't help thinking that by not commuting 3 federal death sentences he is giving Trump the green light to execute those prisoners. If you are going to oppose the death penalty in principle, you have to do it across all cases, no matter what.

Here is a copy of President Biden's Executive Grant of Clemency commuting the sentences of 37 federal death row prisoners to sentences of life without parole. #CommuteTheRow #deathpenalty
