James Gunn is starting to convince me he doesn't respect DC Comics. Look at the output... . . Creature Commandos was chosen as the first "official" property of the Gunnverse. And yet, few people watched it, Gunn chose to go unnecessarily hard-R, and he fumbled the opportunity to go toyetic with a layup property for action figures and statues. Then he releases Superman (2025). I like the casting, but the plot frequently pushed Superman aside in favor of the irreverent Justice Gang. It's also clear he thinks little of the Kents and likes making Superman the butt of jokes. Followed by Peacemaker season 2. Again, few people watched it. The season was unnecessarily hard-R, and he fumbled the opportunity to create a congruent tone with his broader vision. Now, we get the super-flop that is Supergirl. Among the many problems are a lack of creative care, the selection of an Elseworlds story that doesn't present Kara in a good light, and he fumbled the opportunity to broaden Superman's story in a cool way with a connected character. Coming soon, we have the likely rumor that Lanterns will begin with the death of a main DC character in the first episode, the show is unnecessarily hard-R, and the tone/theme fumbles the opportunity to show a big screen Hal Jordan that's consistent with Superman. Followed by Clayface. A film about a Batman villain but doesn't star Batman, which follows the failed model of Sony Spider-villain movies. The film is totally out of step with the rest of the Gunnverse, and it fumbles the opportunity to intuitively integrate with the Bayman mythology. Put all if that together, and what do you get? No plan. No consistency. Fumble after fumble. And a complete lack of respect for what makes DC Comics special. James Gunn needs to screw his head on straight right quick.

It’s crazy that even Gunn’s most hardcore fans can’t even get behind the way he is running DC!
