If "we" didn't learn, how come "we" are growing food which originated in South America successfully?

All selectively bred. Corn by itself is a monumental agricultural achievement.

Each culture decides how to deal with the sacrificial crisis. The Mexica were very precise, but hardly unique in displaying grisly cadavers.
