@AmiriKing To say that the Florida Panhandle isn't the South indicates to me that this individual isn't well traveled. Also Arkansas is more southern than Nashville is. I've been through all these places.

@DerekStephanBro @AppyOrtho Yes, I was born here. It’s were you moved too when you earned enough money farming or raising beef, but most of my family still lives in parts of Florida nobody has ever heard of.

You see, in the South we had culture. Was it racial? A little bit but ultimately no. White, black, Cherokee etc., we were Southern. We were family. What will we do when these old timers black, white or red, are gone? 😭

@DerekStephanBro @400LUXMP33 Speaking as someone who only has one, mild, special needs child but attends church with several special needs children, you can tell when a child is special needs and when a child just isn’t disciplined. They come across as two totally different things.

As Orthodoxy grows across America, one thing the laity should concentrate on in the social aspect of church life, is to maintain and enforce cleanliness and manners. Lining up, no cutting, modest portions at coffee hour, speaking quietly, not scrolling, controlling your children, cleaning up more mess than you made, leaving a space cleaner than you found it, etc.

@AppyOrtho @400LUXMP33 I understand, but as a special needs parent we oftentimes get lumped in as "bad church parents." Sure we could probably do better. But sometimes you've exhausted everything. Even if you didn't bring this up it's important to talk about anyhow as many churches want to sweep this..

@DerekStephanBro @AppyOrtho Yankee and Southerner are just manifestations of old folk way (culture) The American South is just over 400 years old, but its root culture is much older. The same is true of puritan Yankee control freaks.

@DerekStephanBro @AppyOrtho There’s a boy with heavy special needs at my church. He even has really loud sudden outbursts at random times and can’t control his movement and stuff. I always wish that I could ensure his mom knows that no one minds or lets themselves be annoyed :) I’m so happy theyre there!

@BridgetWaddles @AppyOrtho And they were excellent, better than the white church members honestly. What i think needs to happen is that we need to accept that we are different and attempt to find some common ground on things we share. We need to stop pretending.

In my original comment, if you read past the first line, acknowledged that blacks & whites should be allowed their own spaces in order to get along (good fences make good neighbors, as it were). @BridgetWaddles @AppyOrtho Honestly it's a fine example of why slavery was bad. I want to make something crystal clear here. I don't hate all blacks and most are alright to decent. However they have a much higher % who aren't alright than other groups. I've seen them in churches i was a member of.
