On Interstate 88 in Duanesburg, New York, what started as a routine stop spiraled into gunfire. Troopers say passenger Nelson Troche reached across the driver and fired out the window, striking Trooper Richard Albert in the shoulder. In the chaos that followed, Troche and driver Alicia Eriole allegedly tried to flee…even attempting to carjack another vehicle. A truck driver stepped up and blocked their escape. Troche ran into the woods and was later found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Eriole was arrested at the scene. Prosecutors say she reclined her seat so Troche could fire at the trooper. She later pleaded guilty to criminal facilitation and now faces four to twelve years in prison. All of this…from a speeding stop.
